I have SO many WOW moments. But one that really stands out was the first time I saw a giant. I came out to a clearing in the middle of the night after completing a mission in a cave. It was barely light out and in the far distance in the middle of a field, I saw a GIANT casually walking with a woolly mammoth! I thought it was so cool! I watched them walk for a while. Any creature that came by was demolished by the mammoth. The giant seemed to be instructing the beast to do so. It was really a sight. I decided to get closer to them and see what type of damage I could do. My character (Kajhiit?) is stealth and I used my skills to sneak up on them. I was excited and nervous at the same time. My heart was racing. I tried my unrelenting force shout and knocked over the giant. The mammoth however, only seemed to get angry with me for disturbing them. The mammoth came charging at me and the earth shook beneath my feet. I could barely run away. The giant got back up and chased me as well. It was a thrilling moment. Needless to say, the giant caught up with me and with ONE swipe of his club, launched me into the air and I fell to my death. I love this game.

my first major wow moment was while i was battling a group of forsworn at one of their forts. i was scouting around for the entrance while marcurio picked off some of the enemies that were on a bridge above us. right as i was turning to go around to the other side of the fort, a fire dragon showed up. since my character is absolutely awful with fire, i hid around the corner instead of going out to fight it. after a while i decided to peek through one of the windows and right there, looking straight at me through the window, was the dragon.

and then it blasted me with fire and i died.

but yeah. i was floored. it was so cool how the window actually acted like a window, rather than part of a solid wall like it would in just about any other game.

I don't know if this has been talked about yet, but I had a little "wow, that's interesting" moment while hunting the other day. I love how the game allows you to actually "track" while hunting. If I stumble across a recently killed body of something, I know something is possibly moving around in the surrounding area. At times there are also blood trails that lead to either things that were killed or enemies with their prey.

I was on my third dragon soul. I was a participant in all 3 kills, not solely responsible for any take down. With the first two, after I absorbed the dragon's soul, the other characters we're for the most part awestruck after witnessing the 'Dragonborn'... They boasted and cheered me.

But on the third dragon, just bones remaining at the entrance to Winterhold, I turned to the other participants and witnesses, expecting more ooo's and ahh's after my soul absorption. But instead, one Winterhold Guard, I believe a Stormcloak, says 'You better get out of here.' I thought he was talking to someone else. Then another guard chimed in, then another. I thought 'Uh oh, what's goin on here, they're lookin at me'. So I trotted thru them heading towards the College. In my peripheral vision I could see one of the guards running along side me looking at me. I heard more and more footsteps. I didn't want to look back but I sensed that these guards were trying to decide whether to attack me or not. They continued to taunt me, but didn't attack. When I reached the College, I got one arrow in the back.

Now this is just frickin awesome. Usually in a game you're either friend or foe. But the anxious feeling building in me as the animosity seemed to be gathering in these guards. Just awesome.

Question would be.. why DID these guards react differently than guards in other cities/towns? I had no bounty on my head at the time. Do the Stormcloaks have a different attitude towards the Dragons?

This is an excellent design of the game - The leader of the stormcloacks, Ulfric Stormcloack, can do dragon shouts. If you shout in Windhelm, guards will alert you. Since Ulfric always holds onto his dragon ability, it's understandable for his men to be on edge about seeing another.

First wow moment was me failing to kill a dragon, instead of watching a cutscene where i epicly jumped on its head and sliced it open, i got to watch a not-so-epic me get snapped up and thrashed around violently like a rag doll.

This happened to me in the Orc stronghold near Markarth in the Reach. As soon as I entered their gate, a dragon appeared and I began fighting it. After I killed it, Stormcloak soldiers (now that I'm thinking back..it could have been Reach guards, but I swear they were Stormcloak..perhaps they have some camp nearby I wasn't aware of? Hard to believe they'd be guarding some random Orc village) were grouped outside the entrance and kept telling me to back off, bows drawn.

I was really confused by this response. I just rescued this little Orc stronghold that probably would have been easily dominated if I wasn't around. I'm not saying I don't believe in the warrior capabilities of the Orcs within, but this was an Ancient Dragon. I don't know why they stood at the gate and had such an angry disposition, refusing me entrance.

It just didn't make sense. I think it was surprising and brilliant and definitely a break from what I'm used to- but confusing nonetheless o_O By the way, I've killed several dragons in Winterhold and Windhelm and have used my voice and have never gotten a response like this. What exactly triggers this hostility? I know Ulfric can shout and all, but I don't know if it can simply be explained away by the Stormcloaks possibly being threatened. Maybe said guards/Stormcloak soldiers think you're bringing or summoning the dragons :p

I've had a lot of similar "wow" moments. Last night while trying to complete a bounty to kill a giant, as I was racing away from the mammoths to avoid getting stomped, the two giants hot on my heal, out of seemingly no where a "thief" steps out in front of me and demands my money. One of the responses was something along the lines of "you don't want to do this (intimidate)". I thought to myself and laughed because I exited the conversation as the giants approached and sprinted away. The giants thumped him and sent him into orbit. I got far enough away do to that distraction to finally stop and take out the giant and hide from the other.
I couldn't stop laughing for a bit at how appropriate that response was at the moment.

I had some of the same "wow" moments.... Like the view is awesome I'll sit on my horse and just look around and forget what I'm doing. And how the water looks real and the waterfalls look awesome. And I like how the dragons appear out of no where, like this one time I was riding my horse up this mountain side taking forever and out pops a damn dragon. As it was flying around I was trying to run away from it so I can get to a open space to fight it but I wasn't paying attention and it ran me off a high cliff and killed me and my horse( which I just bought). I just remember looking at my boyfriend and said "that effin dragon just owned me!!!!." lol god I love this game.... (oh yeah I went back and slaughter that dragon)

Would you share your little "wow" or "omg really?" or "holy crud that was cool" moments with the rest of us? All those tiny things that go into making this a supremely amazing and deep game.

I had one just recently, something small that knocked my socks off. I was getting into a carriage, and the driver, as part of idle chat, appropriately referenced the weather. An NPC. Noticed the weather. And mentioned it. DUDE.

I know, dumb nothing, but things like that are startling and incredible because of the depth they add to the game.

How 'bout you?

My first WOW moment was when I realized I could make my follower carry INFINITE amounts of goods simply by loading them in a chest and telling them to "Take All" from the chest.

That and Torchbugs. I love torchbugs!!

I also was blown away by my first discovery of a Word on a Wall. Rivaled the first Dragon kill and soul absorbtion for sheer COOL factor!

OK. This is kind of embarrasing, but last night I was at the Mage College crossing the bridge and actually triggered my real world fear of heights! I had to go to bed.

It made me a little uneasy the first couple times I cross the bridge...especially the part that's falling apart. My wife watches me play sometimes and she still tells me to stay away from the edge when I'm on cliffs/bridges/etc. because she's afraid that I'm going to fall lol

My "wow" moment would have too be the end quest, It was kinda a combination of "wow" and "Oh my gosh, Really?" Because I thought I was gonna drown but the exit ended up being at the very top, so they really went out of their way making it seem like you would.

my best WOW moment occurred while reading this thread.
I thought I had done so much in Skyrim, but apparently I haven't done pl***.
this is awesome, awesome news.

I've been playing non-stop, but random exploration takes priority over quests.
"oh, there's a main quest? how cute."

Saw this forum and knew I had to share this story.

My WOW story involves possibly the most insane battle I ever experienced in any game. As always I tend to play any game on hardest settings so that I feel a sense of accomplishment when I finish the game. I've researched on how others played Skyrim on Master while building up their smithing/enchanting or whatever skill to make master somewhat unbalanced. I decided to forgo this idea and go at it from beginning to end on Master and improving my skills based on what would be needed to survive. With Smithing up there I was finally able to craft my dragon armor around level 20 but to obtain the mats I had to go dragon hunting.

It was during the main quest-line where you venture out to the lost Blades Temple, I tend to forget names but I'm sure those whom played remember this place well. It's where you learn of Dragonrend on the ancient carvings. I decided to make the journey there with the company of Delphine and her fireball spewing friend Esbern. As we ventured out into the wilds, I could see the marker on my map indicating that I was close to the temple. Being on master, I save every 2 minutes. Just about to cross the river and hike just above the small hill to sack the small encampment of Forsworn and as if death be waiting, a dragon appears. But not just any dragon, but an ancient dragon. I ready my shield and embrace for the swooping flames, instantly I turn into ash. Reload and go at it again. The battle itself turns itself into a 3 hour frenzy as I do everything in my power to evade the 1-hit flame attack. The forsworn are in a frenzy, sending everything they have at the Ancient. Nothing phases it. Spells and Arrows litter the sky and flame engulfs everything and everyone. The Ancient one finds me, I dodge his attack. Feeling proud of myself, I instantly begin to time his attacks to find an opening when I could attack. Oh and my Nord is skilled in Heavy Armor and shield and board. I played somewhat a paladin, using healing rather then alchemy to keep me and my friends alive. Drunk off of fire-resist potions and buffs, I finally manage to survive his flame attack. Before I could even pull out my heal fast spell, he swoops down again and attacks. It was then I realized these ancients ones have faster cooldowns then their weaker brothers. Another reload and the battle begins. This time I stand back and let the forsworn handle the dragon, and they die within minutes. Failed to block his attack and another reload. Having to take a break, I come back an hour later mentally preparing myself for this fight. I refuse to tune down the difficulty or rely on internet guides to aid me in killing this dragon. I must do this, I have too. I load up the fight and embrace for hell. Life is funny you know. I defend myself against his flame, healing myself like an addict. My healing has probably capped from all the healing in this fight alone. It was then another dragon comes in and turns the fight into pure chaos. Now I'm defending myself from both flanks, keeping an eye out for the ancient one while a blood dragon swoops down and keeps Delphine and Esbern busy. After what seemed like forever, I finally managed to cut down the ancient one and turn my shield towards the other dragon. Forsworn bodies floating in the river and the skeletal remains of 2 dragons. This was my epic moment. Thank you Bethesda for giving me that.

Specially after I clocked in 2 years in Morrowind only to have the last boss fall into the lava and die on me.

Trekking across to Rorikstead when a dragon turns up - I start running away from it (I wasn't a very high level at this point) and it kept chasing me. Then it's buddy, another dragon decided to join in the chase. I managed to make it to Rorikstead (just barely) when the townspeople came out, helped me out, and pwned the dragons. Was more awesome than it sounds.
