My "Wow" Moment...

While in Markarth, during the Daedric quest 'The House of Horrors,' after everything went down... I was just amazed at how the chairs were stacked up on the table in pyramid shape..

The entire game was awesome, but one time, I literally had to pause the game and sit gaping for two or three minutes. (Spoilers for "The Throat of the World" and on in the MQ)

Seriously, when I found out Paarthurnax was a dragon, I flipped. At first I thought I was screwed and I was going to have to fight him, but I didn't see that twist coming ever.

Also the first time I visited Blackreach. (And every time after that.) I don't understand why people dislike the Dwemer ruins, I mean, the Falmer are annoying, but the ruins are fraking awesome.

Hearing new dialogue despite obsessively playing this game for over a year and sinking a little under 1000 hours is always wow. Today I heard Dengeir complaining to Narri about his food, and when she told him the food was fine and his sense of taste was off he said she'd never have dared talk like that back when he was Jarl.

And I decided that my current Altmer's backstory and recent experiences meant she'd attack a Thalmor patrol fighting a Stormcloak patrol. I swear, one of the Altmer's said to me as she ran up: "You're no true elf." I've never heard that before.

Speaking of fights with lot if enemies at once, when I was going with Farkas into that draugr place to retrieve a Wuuthrad fragment, at the end when all the draugr pop out it was like they just kept coming! And practically all of them were draugr scourges. I used running and healing with that one too, and I used some Fire Breath when I could. That fight lasted a really long time.

ha ha ha. The best part is that after The Wolf Queen Awakened, I don't even remember that quest as particularly significant. The last part of the Wolf Queen Awakened is essentially the same thing except with a Death Lord thrown in and the ones that you just killed would resurrect and find new/more deadly weapons if you looted their bodies.

It was bad.

Awesome, but bad.
Since my last posting, I've also realized how very attached I've become to Whiterun. That's rather amazing if you ask me.

Since my last post in here, I've restarted the game completely and tried to get into new quest lines. On my first play through, I thought I had done every thing possible from a noob's perspective. How very wrong I was! I'm in the middle of the Nightingale/Thieves Guild quests and I must say, working alongside Brynjolf and taking Mercer's place is probably one of the coolest events to happen on the game for me.

Also, when I first played it, I always thought that if you were under level 20 you were a generally "weak" and "insignificant" character. How very wrong I was, again. I've done more at level 15-17 than I ever really did above level 40 lol.

I witnessed the most epic battle I've ever seen (that I didn't participate in): Blood Dragon vs. Giant vs. Frost Troll.

The dragon won, while the troll was first to fall. Unfortunately this took place just outside of Dawnstar... so the dragon attacked the town after killing its initial enemies.

So me and Serana are strolling into Falkreath, think we were coming all the way from Markarth irc. Was about to swing in to see if the the alchemy dealer had a random Daedra Heart when I noticed some burly looking dudes coming out of the Inn. I remember thinking that it was odd to see such heavily armed dudes walking around town when sure enough, they were looking for me. So the boss comes running at me with his two-hander and I'm totally off guard (transmute spell). Worse, I hear a guard say "What was that?" during the melee while I'm recovering from the initial stagger, as I'm staggering, I manage to look up and see TWO dragons swirling overhead, one a Revered based on the shape of the tail, so they promptly land on separate buildings and begin covering the town in shouts. Once I was able to get my bearings (I'm a dual-wielder in tight but the shield and mace had to come out for those bums), I turned to focus on whichever dragon was closest when I hear Serana say "Where did you come from?"... why not, a vampire ambush on top of everything else. She takes off after them. Won't go into battle details. You can imagine. Btw, master setting, legit build.

All that after walking about a billion miles picking up stuff and plundering caves. Me and my follower both completely loaded down...

That I was able to lead that battle without accidentally hitting a guard/townsfolk was a miracle. Especially at night. One of many "wow" moments but that one about made me poop my pants.

How do you backstab a Dragon?

Now that's a night on the town! Sounds like fun.

Started a Necromancer-ish type character a few days ago. During the College of Winterhold quest where you have to go grab the books from the guy who stole them, I drop down into sneak mode in a room where there's a single mage and a cage full of dogs. I quickly cast Fury (or Frenzy, was it?) on the mage. He turns, growls something to the effect of, "Come out, my pets," and releases all the dogs. Instead of sending the dogs after the intruder, he slaughters every last one of them and then calmly goes back to hunch over his books.

I kinda sat there dumbfounded. I mean, I liked my strategy, but the man just killed his pets while being mind controlled. So many horrible ideas...

I've played this game since release and most of the experience is a "wow-moment". Compared to Oblivion - which I've got tired of quite fast, because of slow progress and long learningcurve - it's a "masterpiece" of this generation. The story is solid and makes you want more, the game-engine is thrilling and voiceacting is of high quality aswell. First dragon, the improved first person view, leveling progress and the environment as a whole, is the "wow-moment" for me.

And the bugs and glitches, of course. Who doesn't love the bugs and glitches? That's were the memory remains. Dead dragons "raining" down, randomly, wherever I go. My in-game wife, Lydia, with a psychotic Stockholm Syndrome, walking backwards, trying to forget that she was kidnapped. She never wakes up, when she's sleeping and I can't even sleep with her anymore. What did the kidnappers do to her!? Realistic as trauma could ever be, in any other game I played. That's "unintentional AI" at it's best, if you ask me.

All main quests complete - including Dawngard and Dragonborn - and I'm level 142, running around in awsomeness with my follower Serena. :)

This is my second playthrough and I've already seen a lot in the game but, things like this never cease to amaze me. I've already been past the first dragon encounter where you can read their thu'um in the sub titles and I've fought about 10 dragons between then and now. Not one of the previous ten spoke audibly for the sub titles until the last one I just fought outside of Karthwasten. I was looking for the Stormcloak camp in the Reach and boom, this blood dragon shows up. It roars and then my subtitles show up with "Dragon: Vol..." and then there's fire for days lol. It wasn't a named dragon or anything, just a normal blood dragon. I'm not sure if it was supposed to tell me what it said or not but it was still cool either way.

Clearly the little things in Skyrim work for me.

I almost fell off my chair the first time I realized the dragons were talking to and taunting me from the sky but I've never seen subtitles. That's cool.

One thing I never realized before shelving my map and just walking the land, the Skyrim roads are BRUTAL. I mean, I knew they were rough, but I make a nice side living looting dead merchants and traders I stumble across on the road. And I don't know how they do it, but this game seems to find very unexpected ways to reward the foot traveler.

You have to turn the subtitles on in the game settings. I turned mine on because I had a speech lag the first time I played and then I figured out the dragons talked. So. Awesome.

When I thought I had defeated Alduin. In mid-celebration, I realised that I had to continue through the story and kill him again. The second time was epic as well, though.

Just a few minutes ago a guard in Whiterun commented on my armour. It was the Penitus Oculatus armour that I'd stolen from an agent I killed. He also mentioned how he doesn't envy me, something to do with the Emperor.

I went into the Bannered Mare because I wanted to buy some food to feed my expanding household (a self-imposed rule). An orc called me a milk drinker and to go home to my mother. I decided my current character, being motherless, would be annoyed by that so they got into an argument which escalated in a manner everyone but my character could have predicted. The orc screamed: "Gods you're boring!" and attacked. In a very action packed five seconds I summoned a flame atronauch and gave myself stoneflesh. The orc got several hits in, forcing me to cast restoration as well.

Sven decided this was a great moment to start singing Ragnar the Red.

I've got to say, as my character is female, it did seem appropriate. So Sven sings all the verse of Ragnar the Red while the inn patrons yell encouragements and bets. Meeko and my flame atronach force the orc back against the wall, allowing me to shoot arrows. By some miracle I completely manage to avoid hitting anyone else.

As Sven is singing the closing words, the orc falls to one of my arrows. The second he falls on the ground dead, the entire inn starts to applaud.

I know it was just a coincidence, but it really did feel like everyone was applauding me for bringing down the orc. It was an awesome feeling. I actually regretted it happened to my sneaky conjuration archer, and not a weapon specialist. Can you imagine how much more epic that would have been if I'd actually beheaded the orc while Rangar the Red was playing?
