Totally agree with this. I can make a strong case for the uselessness of the two-handed tree with my play style.Your view of the usefulness or worthlessness of this school's skills and perk tree are dependent on how you choose to play Skyrim. There are so many different ways to achieving the end (if you so choose) of this game, that to completely discredit the usefulness of these skills and perk trees only show narrow mindedness... now cooking on the other hand....
(Elsweyr Fondue notwithstanding)
I couldn't disagree more. Paralyze, an alteration spell, is sooo OP. Invisibility is another great Illusion spell. Calm spells are great too.
useless no it depends on how you play. i am a lvl 48 battlemage and i didnt start wearing armor until i was around lvl 30. i had a set of fine clothes enchanted with magic regen and magic resist. i use the the illusion school as my go to spell. i use frury and frenzy to send the first enemy i see running around looking to kill anything. to figure out how many enemies are around. works great for reconnaissance. and to thin out a fort full of bandits. then you just have to worry about the stragglers. back before i started wearing armor i would then pop stoneflesh and fireball spells. the alteration schools are for the mages who dont wear armor then the perks for mage armor becomes huge. i didnt take my alteration that high and didnt put many points into it. now the only spells i use from alteration is muffle and every now and then ill use invisibility. i always use muffle while clearing a fort or cave. my mage sneaks everywhere just so i dont get jumped by anything without knowing ive been spotted. and i wear the ebony mail set so im always using muffle. but calling illusion and alteration completely useless is like calling weapons and armor useless. its all in how you play.Seriously... I've heard people say these two are good schools, but come on? Arguably, alteration has only 1 good group of spells-the flesh spells. And illusion, clairvoyance is all i need. I have no use for either of them, and IMO, they are worthless. Prove me wrong. I dare you. I'd love to be put down, but seriously, what is the point? I'm ready.
...but calling illusion and alteration completely useless is like calling weapons and armor useless.
lol yeah i know but calling anything in this game useless is a joke. it all depends on how you play and what kind of character you are.Wow, can you just imagine the flames if someone actually posted that?
A pure Mage would agree though!
On a Nightblade build, Alteration and Illusion are your bread and butter. Your argument is invalid.
As a Nightblade, Invisiblity, Calm, and Frenzy are the Illusion spells I use most when I'm taking down large mobs of enemies or I find myself overun. Detect Dead and Detect Life (Alteration spells) are also insanely useful as an assassin; you should always be aware of your surroundings. Also, Paralysis (another Alteration spell) is gamebreaking when you get to the higher levels. Simply cast Paralysis, and Fus Ro Dah them to death.
So please, next time you're about to bash something in the game, just remember: everything has a point. Bethesda created these types of things to be used in a certain way. Just because you do not use them that way does not mean they are useless.
