Too bad there's no recovery. I guess the only appropriate response is to find the most undesirable character you can and marry your brother's character to it. I do believe Agrenor Once-Honored is an available marriage partner.

You beat me to it. My buddy got me that way. I completed the companions quest line to marry Aela. I bought the nice house in Riften for us to live in and everything. I came home one day and started the game. I was in Breezehome and Farkas was just a smiling at me. So yeah, I got married to Farkas. I keep him around for the daily gold. But he stays in Whiterun and I live in Riften.
