I actually enjoy the challenge of combat on horseback. Spears/lances would be better, though.
Living horses are just window dressing for me now.
If you have the Twin Souls perk , you can even have two Arvaks at the same time !
Horses are great with mods. I have one that lets me increase their health and stamina, set their aggression level, set them to follow me when I'm on foot, and increase their speed. It also gives followers horses and lets me forage for ingredients and dialogue with NPC's while mounted. I can also call my horse to me by whistling so for me their very useful and can ragdoll enemies by charging and hitting them with the horse in sprint mode in combat mode.
Without the mods they're not very useful other than to reduce travel time, but even then only if you don't have followers and alone I can move even faster as a Lycan in Beast Form which I can assume multiple times a day with the Ring of Hircine.
So, the question remains... What's the point of a horse? Limited fighting ability, dismounting constantly, and apparently easy death if you're not careful. I just feel like Bethesda didn't put enough thought into horse usage for skyrim. Thoughts?
Convenient HorsesWhat mod is that one you made or one you downloaded, if it's the latter whack a link up that sounds handy. I have never really used a horse in Skyrim found them to be about as much use an ejector seat in a helicopter myself.

hmm i am torn whether to keep my undead horse arvak or go back to my prev save spot and just keep using my shadowmere, i love my shadowmere a lot hmmm plus the undead horse doesn't go with my role playing.
OK its final i reload a past prev save and not go back to soul cain to get the undead horse and stay faithfully true to my shadowmere
There seems to be a general consensus in this thread that Arvak looks cool. Am I the only one here that strongly disagrees? Yes, Arvak is my mount of choice because he can be summoned at will, but I hate the appearance. While I'm sure his bone structure is accurate, it makes him look dainty and bow legged. And he trots like a sissy. My character is a heavy armor tank, and he appears right silly sitting on top of a horse that looks like it would disintegrate in a stiff breeze.
TT
Any special horses you can get honorably, including through honorable combat?
