Honestly, the level of bugs in this game is just shameful. I could forgive this one if it were easily fixed by console commands (like several other bugged quests - see "Waters of Oblivion") But the fact that the console commands have no effect is just bizarre and hateful. What's the point of the...
It looks like I'm going to have to give up most of yesterdays play and try redoing the quest from the beginning. I'll update this thread if I can find an alternate way to complete the quest.
For the curious, I started the quest after almost completing the civil war (the only city I've yet to...
That's odd, I could swear that when I was doing the Alduin's Wall bit I spent most of my time sniping hostiles who were in melee with my allies. But I could be misremembering.

I assume you're talking about the Civil War quests? I've had similar issues, even while invisible. However I think sneak attack bonuses apply to any enemy who isn't aware of your presence, regardless of whether allies can see you. Somehow once the melee has begun it seems impossible to reclaim...
So there's no console command that will remove the "essential" flag so I can kill this piece of plops? I really don't want to have to load a save from hours ago.
UPDATE: I tried using the command "setessential 1414A" as per this youtube video but to no avail.
So I've been running through the Blood on the Ice quest but after chasing the perpetrator back to (my own legally purchased home) Hjerim I can't defeat him. When I first attack I see a health bar, but after he drops to his knees I can't seem to hurt him anymore. To make matters worse, after a...
The real tragedy is that Bethesda released a game with so many quest shattering bugs in the first place. I feel like a cheater every time I use the console to fix what's clearly broken. Of course, I still consider Skyrim to be the best game ever made.
I've been postponing that decision myself. You should talk to the Graybeards about it if you haven't already. Bring it up the next time you go in for a word-wall quest. I know I'll have to decide eventually, but for now there are plenty of other things to pursue.
