The Falmer had no specific personality. They were wary of outsiders and were veyr survival oriented, I guess. They did not hold themselves high and they definetly were nothing like the Betrayed (modern Falmer). If you ask the Nords, they were all evil, puppy-murdering monstrous elven d-bags. If you ask the Altmer, they were wondrous and magnificent Mer, second only to the Altmer themselves. If you asked a Khajiit, they'd say, "What do you mean, Falmer? Khajiit has never heard of such a thing in his entire life." These are based on the Night of Tears and the war. Falmer were living peacefully, coexisting with Dwemer and Chimer, when the Atmorans fled their dying homeland and landed in winterhold. The Falmer and Atmorans became fast friends, trading and everything. But, the Atmorans multiplied too quickly and began taking more and more land from the Falmer. So, the Snow Elves attacked Saarthal, the main Atmoran city in Skyrim. A war began, the Falmer tryign to save their homeland from the Atmorans. Or, from the other side of the argument, the Atmorans trying to find a new home (by slaughtering Falmer). I am biased towards the Falmer, as history is written by the winners, so you have to assume that the Atmorans actually commited many more atrocities than they care to admit. So, anyway, various personalities. Pretty survivalistic and distrustful, though.
