I'm going to purchase my first house and just wanted to know what your oponions are? If you don't mind mention the cost of the house when you post.
Thanks

Just buy Whiterun. Simple, easy to get to, decent storage and options. Only thing it really lacks is an enchanting table.

The rest of the homes takes a lot more time to earn, not only in gold, but also in quests. You can get Whiterun on your first day if you can earn enough coin.

Is there a house you can get that had a smithery, alchemy table and enchanting table?

No, there are no purchasable houses with a forge. However the first DB sanctuary does have one inside(not sure about the second, never really looked around) and I believe it has an enchanting and alchemy table as well.

My favorite house is vlindrel hall in markarth, it has the best layout IMO, and only costs 8000.

Alchemy - Yes
Enchanting - Yes
Smith (Forge) - No... not without PC Mods anyway.

As far as using non-traditional means of storage, just be aware that dungeons/forts reset every 30 "in-game" days... not sure if what you have stored inside containers would be wiped out when the mobs respawn.

I'd go with either Vlindrel Hall or Honeyside. Both very good, lots of storage, both come with enchanters table and alchemy table. Vlindrel Hall is 8000, but you have to be level 20 before you can purchase it. Honeyside is 8000-12,000 (It will cost any amount in between 8-12k, whatever you have in your inventory, with the least being 8k but won't go over 12k).

I ran most of my first character through the game with only the whiterun home. then I finally broke down and got the others to blow some money :D

Breezehome in Whiterun. The city is small enough to not get lost, and if you're over encumbered, the house is right by the gate. Next to it is the War Maiden, so you can sell items right away, and there are two merchants there, assuming that Addrianne is outside and her husband inside.

It has plenty of intelligent placing of storage items, too. In the Alchemy room, there is a small satchel on the table for ingredients, and on the bookcase is a chest for your potions.

There's pretty much everything in Whiterun: plenty of merchants, two blacksmiths, a court wizard, a few food sellers.

Whiterun is in the middle of the map, so it's easy to get to. It's also going to end up taking the least amount of time to fast travel. It'll take a few hours no matter where you are, while traveling from Riften to Solitude or Markarth will take you half a day at least. That's wasted time.

Oh, and Breezehome is pretty cheap.

if you want a free home you can get the Abandoned House in markarth, no alchemy or enchanting tables though.... but it has the most storage containers of any house.

I personally like the home in Riften, it leads in and out of riften especially nice for a vamp character.

I went with Breezehome in Whiterun. Right now its the only house i own. It's cheap, and centrally located. Realtors always say the most important thing in buying a home is location, location, location. Plus I became thane in Whiterun after only playing a few missions my first day. As far as what's the best house in skyrim? I would like to know that. Since I got a bunch of gold burning a whole in my pocket and I am looking to purchase another house,. Preferably one with all the amenities enchanter, forge, grindstone, and plenty of chests to store my finds until I'm ready to sell. Whether that's all available is a house I don't know, but an adventurer can dream. Right?

The best house is all dependent on your opinion.

My opinion ends up being Breezehome.... you may want to try Honeyside in Riften. You can access it from the docks on the lake outside of the city, and from inside, so that's good. It has a Blacksmith across the little water-ally, and inside is pretty much everything else.

Breezehome has all the things a house needs, plus, Whiterun is a perfect city. I quite like the size and layput of breezehome, it's quite nice. Not to mention it's the cheapest, plus Whiterun is the easiest place to become thane. I may change my mind after getting the other houses, but right now, I love it.

I love the Breezehome in Whiterun, and the home in Riften. The one in Windhelm is huge, but lacks storage I am findiing. I love the one in Solitude, but it not as good as the little one in Whiterun.

Breezehome so far, is the bang bang for your buck and it is so darned easy to get to. It is my first house, and my favorite. I have a ton of stuff in there.

Breezehome in Whiterun held me for a long time. it's great to have the smith right next door. the only problem is it pretty much comes with Lydia built in. If you don't get her killed she ends up spending all of her time in YOUR room snacking on bread. plus, once I started enchanting things it was a pain to haul them up to the castle all the time.

I finished up the whole civil war quest so I could move into Hjerim, which is a really nice house with lots of places to display trophy armor and weapons, but not enough cabinets and chests. It's really spacious, but as things turns out the Dovahkiin doesn't throw many parties. It's a little too big for a bachelor pad.

Finally I moved into Vlindrel Hall in Markarth. Love it. Tons of storage, a cabinet for everything! Not too big so it is all convenient. Once you figure out the town everything starts to seem as close by as they are in Whiterun. I killed the upstairs neighbor a long time ago and the downstairs neighbor is a Daedric Prince who's always out of town, so no one complains if I play my lute too loud.

My son had to get Proudspire in Solitude. It's fancy, but he spends a lot of time running up and down stairs. I'm going to buy Honeyside in Riften just so I can check it out. If I wasn't on a Playstation I think my main character build would become "real estate developer"

Lydia went missing on me very soon into my game time. I have no idea of where she vanished, but I came out of a cave or whatever it was, and she was gone.

I like proudshire manor because you can dupe items with the glitch associated with it.

For pure function, Breezehome in Whiterun is far and away the best. Its right next to the front gate, has a full smithing area with a smelting hut right next door, two smithing merchants with over 1000 gold, each right next door, a general merchant and herbal merchant a short walk away and yet another merchant in your home if you marry and move her in. The only thing it lacks is an enchanting table, and you can just fast travel up to Dragonsreach for that.

However, Breezehome sucks for immersion, as it's basically a paltry little shack with nowhere nice to display your things. I'm the Dragonborn, Thane of every province, Listener of the Nightmother, Guardian of the Twilight Sepulcher, Harbinger of the Companions, Archmage of the College, known Bard and filthy rich, to boot. It's hardly a fitting home.

So, I use Breeze Home for business and Proudspire Manor in Solitude for decorating and storing all my cool things, as well as standing around like a boss.
