Hello I will be using a skeleton to reveal my characters history and personality, if you have any questions please ask. I am also open to constructive criticism so please tell me anything I could do to improve my character. So yeah. I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I did writing it.
EDIT: This is just a link to someone who created the skeleton for an interesting character (Reference:
How to Build Interesting Characters in Skyrim )
Name: Lathieus
Gender: Male
Race: Bosmer (Wood elf)
Specialisations: Archery, knivesmanship, light armour, Alchemy, Sneak.
Father: A fun loving man who was rather care free, he taught Lathieus how to use the bow. His father always said to sneak when using the bow, as of such so that he wasn't seen when he struck his prey, whether that be a beast or a sentient being for varying reasons. He made stealth feel like a game, such as hide and seek, and threw in many analogies to do with animals and how they catch their pray and that Lathieus must have the stealth of a praying mantis and speed of a hawk. Not that he could ever achieve such speeds, but still the analogies made him more engrossed in the training. His father taught him to love all life, as you only live once, he allowed Lathieus to see the world as a place of beauty. The Thalmor took away his father from him when he was 15. This was to do with the random purges that were placed upon the Bosmer. Although Lathieus now speculates it was one of the reasons he loved his father that he was killed, his undisciplined and clownful nature in life may have made him a target and the fact he was so outspoken and happy might have made the Thalmor angry as of such that they wanted to make an example of this man. After all the perfect race must be disciplined and only care for deadlines.
Mother: She was a quiet if not thoughtful woman. She was quite good with a knife and came back with bear claws and elf antlers from her regular hunts. She taught Lathieus how to brew up potions and set him well on his way to being an alchemist. She also taught Lathieus some of the skills with the knife, but he was no professional at such a thing, he knows only the basics. His mother always asked strange riddles of him, and gave him tasks that involved a lot of thought, this intensified when her husband died. She was always a strict woman and the direct opposite of Lathieus' father, she essentially made the bills disappear with her money and she dealt with the worries. This lead her to doubt herself when she was looking after the house and home whilst her husband looked after her child made her think that Lathieus didn't love her as much. When her husband died, her relationship between her and Lathieus only split further apart. Before Lathieus left she tried amending their relationship, but Lathieus assured her that she truly looked after him, and he loved her for that. The only difference was that her husband was Lathieus' role model. She smiled and waved him off as he left, tears slipping down her face that she wouldn't dare reveal to him whilst he was at home.
History: Lathieus was born in the province of Valenwood. He was raised by two Wood elves. Slowly showing him what was right and wrong in life. His family showed him joy and allowed him to feel free from the world if only for a short time. His father was a scout, and as of such, he went out to the edge of the province to see what was happening. His mother took to the life of being a teacher to Lathieus, showing him what was right, and wrong. The green pact, and ways around it in order to gather vegetables. She also gave him lots of texts to read and write. Once he was advanced at writing, his mother gave him lots of puzzles too solve.
One day, during his training with his father, a large group of Thalmor approached and killed his father, whilst he was stealthily hidden up on a leafy tree branch, he observed as the Thalmor then proceeded to burn the body too a crisp before leaving the charred remains. At this point his life was about to take a turn. A hatred grew for not just the Thalmor now. But for the Altamer as a whole. He spent his days studying texts about the Thalmor, and his nights hunting animals. When he wasn't training in these ways his mother came down stricter on him, wanting to do harder puzzles that he honestly didn't care about. But his mother slowly opened up his mind, to think of problems in different ways, he soon found that he could solve problems in his head with no problem, this developed him as a strategist and eventually he could work out problems with what little items he had.
At the age of 19 he caused subtle trouble for the dominion over the years, raiding some of the Thalmor's equipment that was carried by carriage. Usually burning the equipment with arrows lit with fire with oil thrown around the equipment, so that it wasn't use-able. After a while he felt that he had dragged the Thalmor's eyes down upon him, but he had been so careful. How could they know it was him? He felt unsafe at home now, it was him against two countries, that is when he heard whispers of the Nords having a civil war, this lit a small spark in Lathieus' soul and it drove him to want to liberate the men from the Aldmeri Dominions grasp.
When he became an age of 20 he finally left the nest, his hatred brewing for the Thalmor, he travelled to Skyrim, knowing a civil war was about. He wanted to help free the Nords so that they could fight the Thalmor and Aldmeri Dominion. Although he had a strong feeling at the back of his head that the Nords only wanted Skyrim free, he had a distinct instinct telling him that they would help him reclaim his own land. This was probably denial in his mind, and he knew that, but it was a dream, and well...Somethings are just worth fighting for right?
On his way through Cyrodil he was attacked by a Khajit, who had swung a two handed sword at Lathieus, albeit with his flexibility he could easily roll under the blade and drew his knife and made a quick swipe to the arm-pit where a slight opening crack in the steel armour was. The cut drew extensive blood, the weighty sword and extensive pain forced this Khajit to a kneeling position. Glaring back at the Khajit he heard screaming from all around, and so sheathed his blade and ran. Furious he couldn't finish his enemy with a quick throat cut, but at the same time knowing if he had stayed he would be out-matched. Who was it that was following him? He couldn't know that...He hid in the city of Burma for a few weeks blending in with the crowd and keeping his elven ears sharp he tried to identify who was following him. Eventually he got his answer, the Khajit was in a group of twelve and he attacked alone wanting all the glory. So this group of twelve was after Lathieus....But why? Could the Dominion have known all along and now think this was the perfect opportunity to dispose of him?
He sent an ambush at the crossing point of Cyrodil to Skyrim. He set up a dummy and induced poison gas to release at the first slice of the dummy. He had an arsenal of poisonous smoke bombs and poisonous arrows. They fell for his trap. Striking the dummy and getting poisoned he threw the the bombs and shot arrows at rapid pace killing the khajit one by one. He then realised only eleven were there. Slowly turning around he saw the final member of the squad. He kept jumping and running trying escape. Eventually he fell down a car with the khajit tripping over and following, they rolled into a war zone, looking around he saw swords clash and magic smash before he saw a rock that crashed into him. He thought to himself. "Great!" He then proceeded to be knocked out.
He awoke in a cart with a stormcloak group, with imperial riders around. He shook his head in an attempt to shake the pain away looking around he murmured to himself. "At least my day can't get any worse." This adventure was about to take a turn for the worse.
Destiny: When Lathieus learnt of his mystical powers as a dragon born he was slow and analytic towards his powers, to use them would make him stand out from the crowd, so he slowly decided to keep them hidden, only using these powers in the most drastic of situations. After all he was being hunted down, he didn't need anymore attention being brought upon him. He didn't resent these powers however, he found them as another asset to his bolster of techniques, this was the only magic he could use, as of such he was ready to place it in his arsenal when tactically appropriate.
Motivations and ambitions: Lathieus' motivations revolve around avenging his father and freeing his people. If it came down to a Bosmer and another race that he had to kill it would be the other race, even if the Bosmer deserved to die and the other race was innocent. He also wants the Thalmor to suffer and so he goes out of his way to kill any Thalmor outside of major cities, always trying to keep a low profile.
He might not realise it but another motivation of his is to find love, possibly to try replace his fathers, so when he notes someone in distress who catches his eye for personality or whatever other reason, he is quite calm and offers assistance. He will also help the city in general to give off a positive vibe. However if her political views conflict with his, he will not hesitate to leave her.
Habits and quirks: Lathieus keeps a diary handy and often writes down his experiences. He always keeps some paper and some chalk with him in case he needs to write. He does this to record any interesting findings, but also, he is alone so he uses this as a way to cope and get rid of any negative emotions and to express his positive ones.
He also collects bugs, he doesn't know why. Perhaps he just wishes to use them in alchemy, but for some reason he just loves the idea of these bugs floating around in a jar, buzzing and flapping a way. He is used to a lot of wild life in his home, perhaps this is a sub-conscious reaction to deal with the fact he is home sick.
He always burns the body of Altamer he kills. Throwing oil on them or just shooting them in a grassy area with fire lit arrows. He does this to avenge his father in many ways, so that these vile beings can go through the same torture as his father went through. He sees this a way of letting his father know that he is still fighting in his corner for him.
Phobias: Lathieus fears rats they make him cringe on sight, the normally tactical killer who almost always uses his bow will grip his knife and will chase rats down to stab them to death. If he sees a rat it becomes his main priority. Gripping the small knife and using it as a dark tool, usually stabbing the corpse a few times for good measure. The way he sees rats are infectious little critters, so he wants to kill them before they can harm him.
Prejudices: Lathieus has a prejudice against Altamer always seeing them as evil. He tends to glare at them with intense hate if they are in a social area and if he found them on their own he might be tempted to throw a fist at them. Thalmor are on another level though, once he sees one out of society he will immediately kill them after he asks a few questions. He has an intense hatred for the kind that killed his father.
He is also wary of the Khajit who have aligned themselves with the Aldmeri Dominion, he will trade with them, but he isn't going to try help them in any way. If a Khajit asked Lathieus for help, he would instinctively shake his head and walk away.
He also has a slight prejudice for the rich, although it is easily torn away, if they show humility then Lathieus sees right through the socio-economic status, and could very well go down to the tavern and share a few mugs with them. However if they act self important then a hate is born, seeing them as people who place themselves on high pedestals without earning their place. He is often tempted to cut off a finger or ear of these rich people to show them they have life easy and they should be thankful for everything they get.
Something special: What sets Lathieus aside from everyone else is his ambition to fulfill his mission, he will stop at nothing to fight for freedom. As of such even in tight situations, such as having 7 enemies against the single wood elf, he will not be scared, yet be tactical in how to turn this into an advantage. He will try to persuade the unlikely odds to his side to help his cause. Over all, he is not shaken by the odds he faces and will never bow too the Aldmeri Dominion
Weaknesses: Lathieus doesn't take armour from corpses, for one these armours are custom built so they wouldn't fit him. For a second reason it is unhygienic. All the blood, lice, sweat and who knows what else would probably make him feel sick. And as a third reason you must honour the dead. Removing their armour and desecrating the bodies is disgusting...Well except for Thalmor he would remove their armour, only to drop it next to them as he burnt the bodies.
He can't use swords or any melee weapon larger than a knife, it unbalances him and makes him fall over. He doesn't know how use this equipment and feel rather open if he does use it. So he can't use any large weapon like that at all.
Job: To make ends meat in normal society he usually hunts animals and skins them, selling the meats and crafting basic fur into leather which he makes use of to make leather armour. As he travels many animals hunt people in Skyrim, so he makes a living just by killing animals. However his most stable income is made by gathering a wide variety of leafs, fruits and insectoid creatures. From this mix he makes concoctions and potions which he then sells to make a hefty profit. Doing all this, brings him a decent living. Being able to move around as often as he wishes. This job gives him the skills nessercary to survive and make a living wherever he goes.
Meals: Lathieus prefers to eat meat coupled with an ale to slipper down the meal. He often prefers to eat at a tavern the general energy of he place makes him feel settled and warm inside, the drink makes him slightly more sociable and he'll see he gets pulled into adventures with races he other wise wouldn't if he has drunk some sort of alcohol. He loves to eat thick food as well, allowing himself to fill up quickly this way rather than cabbage or carrots. He doesn't eat the people has slain however which is rare for Bosmer as their religous views insist upon it. Lathieus sees it this way. "I didn't eat any vegitation in Valenwood, so I respect the wishes of my god, but I will not eat a sentient being". Thats fair in his eyes.
Lathieus quote: "A hero isn't going to save my people, i'm not going to stand around and wait for him."
