There should be a trophy called "Followers' Bane"

Just for me. Once Lydia died, I stopped caring about my followers. I almost always have one, more as a pack mule than anything else, but I think Ive left 4 or 5 other followers dead at this point and Im only level 27. Hopefully none of them are needed for anything in the future.

Lydia died on me pretty soon after I got her, Aela, the 2 brothers from the companions, vigilance (the dog), and then probably 4-5 mercenaries all have been killed. J'Zargo is my current follower and I re-load the game if he dies b/c he levels with your character and is pretty powerful.

I was a die hard follower fan once I figured out how to make them carry infinite amounts, but in this session I have forgone them in lieu of being able to sneak attack at will. That may change when I get to Cicero though, that guy just cracks me up!!

- from chasing my lightning: xxx
- from trying to dodge my ice spike: xxx
- from other villians because they were in sneak mode in front of me but not defending themselves as the bad guy came up and beat on them.

Eh...Ive gotten to the point where Id rather be alone. Im a mage so I dont have to carry tons of armor or weapons, so I dont really need a mule anymore.
