Need help questline changed

So I put main quest on hold for ALONG time. I was doing this one quest (forsworn conspiracy) and after I was done I became wanted and if you got caught they took you to jail which started a new quest. I decided I didnt want to do that so i reloaded and left. Well I finally finished the main quest and at the greybeards peace treaty stormcloaks got markarth and now when I got back since there not imperial soldiers anymore they dont arrest me so I can start that quest from jail. Did I loose that quest or can I still do it? And if so how?

It sort of sounds like you may have lost the quest, but I think if you go to the Talos Temple, you might get a chance to get sent back to jail. I think that's where they arrest you.
