Besides the bugs, I just can't stand the non-functionality of the house. Why is there no cupboard in the kitchen? Why is there not a single storage container in the alchemy/enchanting room?

Breezehome just seems SO much better, except for the noticeable lack of an arcane enchanter. The cupboard for your food and ingredients is right next to the cooking spit, the alchemy lab has an apothecary satchel right on the table for storing ingredients and a chest on top of the bookcase where I store finished potions. I love that I can just "take all" from the satchel and it doesn't matter if I have 500 lbs of weight - just click on the lab and start making potions and click back on the satchel to store them again when done.

Hjerim just seems to have had zero thought put behind designing the house, which is a real shame considering what it cost. I think I'm going to load back a couple hours to before I bought it.

I don't like that house either. First the Enchant and Alchemy labs didn't load up (bug). Secondly the blood stains are still on the floor. If I had to choose from houses I like Markath house the best for it's view from the front door. But since the Mod - Dovahkin Hideout, All the houses rock now. check it.

I just use the upgraded Dawnstar sanctuary as a main base now. Better then the Arch Mage's room, and much cooler the Jovassker.

I've owned them all & the best house in my opinion is Proudspire Manor in Solitude, it has both Alchemy & Enchanting tables as well as enough storage containers.

I would have to agree. Three stories, with everything placed correctly to serve it's function. Even has a patio!

The only thing I like about Windhelm house was the Armory.

I agree. I'm currently at this location. I returned home once to find the armour I'd stored on the mannequins had disappeared. No storage in the enchanting / alchemy room, which I might add is a plops tip, with bones and all manner of flotsam and jetsam on the floor. There's blood all over the place and on the chest in the main room. I mean it's just so difficult to have guests round when things are like this. On top of all this I've acquired a small bounty from the local filth. I don't even know how this happened, but as soon as I pass one and s/he says 'Wait, I know you', I hit my RB and Whirlwind Sprint away.

I might buy the house in Solitude, if and only if, the smith is as near as the one in Windhelm. If not it's back to Breezehome I think.

I never had a chance to buy hjerm (Due to Quest not triggering) and I'm not sure what the Markarth one's like. But I like Proudspide Manor, Then Breezehome, and then Honeyside, Honeyside wasn't that good.

I might check the one in Markarth out. I'm not that familiar with the layout as it's probably my least visited city in Skyrim.

I just read that at a cost of 500 Septims you can have Hjerim cleaned of blood, tidied up and the altar removed.

It seems to work fine for me, though. I couldn't even afford the Solitude house at the time, LOL.

for those with the blood stains still in Hjerim, make sure you purchase the "decorations" to purchase the "clean up the murder scene". I don't know if you can go back and get it afterwards though, best to make sure you get it when purchasing.

Yeah, I believe you have to purchase that before upgrading your living room. If you purchase the living room upgrade first, the option to purchase the clean up vanishes and you will be stuck with the mess.

Ahh I must have missed that. I'll approach the Steward again and see if the offer's still on. Hope so.

I think it would be good if you could sell your houses too.

But no good storage downstairs that is near the enchanting or alchemy table.

I agree with the OP. I like having storage right next to the table.

I don't want more shelves, I want more satchels and/or chests. It seems like it would be so obvious to have a box marked "Enchanting supplies" next to an enchanting table. The Markarth house has it about right. There are weapon racks right next to the enchanter, but it's still not perfect. The Alchemy lab in that house is awesome though. Not sure why there is a "Mead barrel" in there, but I just put all my throw away potions in it.

yeah I'd have to say that of all the houses, the one in mararth is the best. the only thing that could make it better would be a alcove with blacksmithing tools so I don't have to lug it all over to the other side of the city

It would be cool if you could have a house in the smaller towns (Morthal, Dawnstar, etc).

I saved then bought the house in Markarth last night. Whilst I thought it was good in terms of storage, the problem for me was how away the smith was. Not such a problem if you're not encumbered, but sometimes I am when I smith. Also, I like a place where there's storage as soon as you walk through the door. It's for these reasons I'll be staying in Windhelm - even if it looks like somebody organised a dog fight in it before I moved in (went back to Jarleif - no option to have it cleaned cos I didn't get it cleaned when I bought it)

In case you hadn't read the patch notes, this is on the 1.4 release. You should be able to get the mess cleaned up now.

Windhelm house acts as my Armory and crafting center. I like the novelty of having the Alchemy and Enchanting tables hidden and I just place my herbs in either of the 2 shelving units and toss my soul gems on the floor. Theres 3 weapon plaques there plus there is massive gear storage upstairs. I kill the housecarl in short order because he's got a bad attitude, he always acted so surprised I was there when its my house damnit!

Breezehome is my main house on other less advanced characters though mainly for its location to the front gates of Whiterun and an outdoor vendor right next door.

This is what it is like for my solitude housecarl, I walk in my house To go do some enchanting and alchemy, and put some stuff away. I walk in and she's like "Are you Lost?" And i'm like Bitch I own you so STFU.
