PC HELP!!! I Need help on some things

I tried posting this in the help section and got no responses so am trying here. I bought this game back when it first came out and was not able to play it because my computer was to old and could not handle the grap[hics. I finally got a new Desk top a couple of months ago and have started playing it. Unfortunately I cannot find another forum to ask so am stuck here since I refuse to pay Steam money to ask on there.
I have several problems and need help:

1. I cannot get the subtitles to work. There is no option at all for subtitles. I have gone through the audio and settings and all the various options and there is NO "subtitles" option. I have to wear hearing aids and sometimes even with the volume as high as possible (on aids and computer and game) I cannot hear what the NPC's are saying.

2. I am stuck on two quests.
The Grimsever Return Quest. I have been through the dang place three times and every time I get to where the "arrow" says the sword is, and where I fight the huge Centurion and the dang sword is not there. I have searched all over and cannot find it. I finally tried the "Console code" to bring the sword to me and it appeared at my feet but when I got the sword and got back to Mjoll she doesn't ask for it and there is no option to give it to her. She still talks about losing the sword but doesn't go any further.
I have Fjola's wedding band in my inventory and I cannot get rid of it. I talked to her husband and then when I returned to Fjola, she stood there and acted stupid... Later I went back and she was gone. Not sure what to do with it.

2. Solving the lighthouse murders; I went through the whole place, went down and killed all the creatures, found the two dead kids, got their diaries, killed the boss and got Daddy's remains, burned them and the dang quest is still in my quest list and there is still a marker at the lighthouse. What am I doing wrong or missing?

3. Darklight Tower: I helped Illia kill her mother. At the time I didn't need a follower but later would like to have a magic user as a follower and tried to talk to Illia and ask her to join me but she just stands there and there is no option to get her to join me. Did I miss out on the chance when I finished the quest and didn't ask her?

4. Is there a way to get things out of your inventory that are stuck there even after the quest is over? For some reason the non-melting snow is stuck in my inventory and so are the Attunement Sphere and the Runed Lexicon. How do I get rid of them?

5. I went online to get hints on where to find a place, I forget where now but there was a map that had a Dawnguard castle marked. I went to that area in the game and there is no castle there. I have been all over that area and cannot find it. Is it a Mod that I have to add? And if so that brings me to the last question.

6. How do I make sure my game is updated to the latest edition? Also how do I add Mods? I have seen mention of them but not sure where to get them or what to do to add them. As I said, I bought the game back when it first came out and discovered that my computer was to old to play it so I have been holding onto it until this last few months and have been playing it like mad. I have played all the other Elder Scrolls games all the way back to Daggerfall. I kind of remember using mods back in the other games that had them but forgot how to install them and am not sure which oens are worth getting and which ones won't screw up my game. Secondly I heard there was some sort of update that screws up Mods so am wary of that.

Here are my 2 cent comments

#2 a) I suspect the battle may have knocked the sword onto the floor. When that happens, items may sometimes move 'below' the floor and are unreachable.

#2 b) Did put put the remains (skull) in the top of the lighthouse? There was a note near the boss battle I believe.

#3 I think you need to leave the area for a while so she can 'get a grip' on her feelings, then go back.

#4 The attunement sphere is useful when you go into other dwarf areas that have access to blackreach. I know of 2 lexicon quests. First I leave on the body, second I leave in reader (to return it). Items that remain usually mean a related quest isn't complete.

#5 If it is the area near riften, the map has it located in the wrong place. Take the road from Riften that heads that way, cross a bridge, and it is a cave on the left that opens to a new area. I had the same problem!

#6 Steam keeps the base game up to date. For mods I go to Skyrim Nexus. If you do use mods, start small. As you can easily corrupt saves with gameplay changes. There is also a loot utility that makes sure mods are loaded in the correct order. With the re-release of special addition, some mods act up with assigning keys. Save more often too. I recommend SkyUI, community patch, darker nights and better vampires. Body mods often require lots of other mods, so I would stay away from them initially.
