Getting dragon to attack

Hey all,

So a dragon spawns near the Silent Moons camp while on the quest to retrieve the long bow from the giantcamp but the dragon won't attack, it attacked the mammoths and was an easy battle in one instance but then I re-loaded a savegamge for some reason and now it won't attack. Very irritating. Any ideas?

Try Shouting at the dragon.I am sure it will become aggressive and Attack!

It depends on your distance to the dragon. It seems to go after whatever is closer to it. They probably calculate the distance based on vectors, so it doesn't matter how high up it is as long as you're the shortest distance to it. However, if it has already pulled aggro on something else that's formidable then you can't really gain that aggro back and your best bet would be to run over to it before whatever it is fighting kills it.

Was the dragon up in the air or on the ground when you saved your game? If it was high up in the air, when you reload a saved game from that position sometimes the dragon wont aggro on you (presumably because it can't see you).

You can try to hit it with distance attacks with bow, spells or shouts to get its attention, but generally speaking it can be pretty tedious and frustrating to predict the dragon's flight path to hit it, and shouts will only work if it is flying pretty close to you.

If there is a mammoth nearby you might be better off trying to reload the saved game a few times. There is a chance that on one of the reloads the dragon will either spot you or the mammoth and decide to attack when it does.

Sorry for offtopic, but a dragon attacked me and a giant and after I killed and looted it, I had to ran for my life, since the stupid giant wasn't happy that I saved his life!

Sometimes I love it when the dragons do not attack.
I've had several cases where they practically seem bored with me.
I had one time way up north where I came out of cave near the coast and there was a dragon buzzing around. It seemed more interesting in roasting the fish and mudcrabs and horkers than killing me. Even after I zapped it with lightning a few times. I did come over and plop down in front of me, breathed some ice on me and then left going back to it's fishing. I was so mad I just left it and went back to the mission I was doing.

i havent finished the dragon quest yet and i always see this dragon flying way up at a very high altitude. mostly around whiterun hold. but i cant ever get it to notice me and ive hit it with shouts and arrows itll take dam and the dot on the compass will turn red but itll never attack me. i think its alduin ressurecting more dragons. atleast thats my theory for my encounters with this particular dragon.

i thought Odahviing was a dragon so i hit it with dragonrend but he kept on flying thats when i figured it was him. it could be him.

I came out of the Silent Moons Camp and there was a dragon; he started attacking the Mammoths so it was an easy kill for me (I'm still low lvl) - I absorbed the dragon magic/spirit but can't find the damn dragon corpse to collect the bones ect...! I've searched the entire area, any ideas guys??
