Barbas

So I was doing some exploring just outside of Riften. I happened to be wearing the Mask of Clavicus Vile while swimming across a lake when I heard the voice of Barbas say "Why do you keep following me?" or something like that. I do not have Barbas as a follower. Has anyone had this happen to them? I'm not sure if there's any relation to wearing the mask and hearing the voice. I tried looking into this but couldn't find any info.

Maybe Barbas never spoke in the first place, it was all in your head and you are going mentally insane. Or maybe not. Buaha.

It's a definite possibility. I swam all over that lake trying to figure out what it could have been. No luck so far.
