I went with Argonian. Mostly because the class I wanted to do was based on Thor, One hand using a one handed mace, the other using lightning bolts.
I know what you guys are thinking, 'he's dumb for using an Argonian for a caster/warrior since they are really good thieves' but your missing the important point.
I chose the Argonian because it looks like a dinosaur. End of story. Who the hell doesn't want to be a damn Velociraptor wearing armor and hunting dragons? His name is Broranasaurusrex
@parker there shouldn't be an apostrophe between the n and s in dragons. Anyway, I chose the wood elf 'cause elves are awesome and I don't like the high elves or dark elves, and wood elves are good at archery and have natural resistance to poison and other stuff.
First character is a light armored female Nord barbarian. I just had the concept rolling in my mind before release...a hammer wielding She-Ra type. I didn't even know the bonuses each race got yet ironically my character was perfectly tailored to her inherent skills. She just runs up and smacks her enemy until they die. Plus Nords seem most associated with the lore of Skyrim yet the commoners seem to act like you aren't native to Skyrim sometimes.
Second character is a light armored male Argonian magic assassin. Originally was going to roll with a female Argonian mage but once I saw the design options for the male Argonian I just went with it. Stealth...security...and harnessing fire and shock magic made for a very different style character. His backstory for me is inspired somewhat by Mass Effect 2's Thane. Plus I find Argonians to be very compelling for a 'beast race'.
I will definitely have more characters in the future though. Probably roll an archetypal Skyrim protagonist (male Nord warrior), definitely have a concept of an Imperial Knight-Paladin, Orc Armored Tank, and at least one Dark Elf just to marry the pretty one in Winterhold.
I just like the beast races a lot for some reason. I try to be unbiased but that's how it is. My first character is a magic khajiit. I prefer to chose a race with an opposite build :]
Started as high elf, got some killer spells but magic got boring so I'm working on a wood elf right now, archery/sneak/pickpocketing is fun. After seeing the special power of the ork though, I will definitely play as one soon.
Playing as a Breton, I like their inherit resistance to magic and they are well balanced for fighting. Probably the closest to playing a dwarf type battle-cleric as I can find.
I chose dark elf as my first character, as I have done since Morrowind. I have a soft spot for them I think. My dark elf is always named the same too with the same skills. Assuming a long line of decendants you'd think the empire would start to notice this tremendous family of dark elves. First Nerevar then Champion of cyrodiil and now Dragonborn. There would be a lot of pressure as a kid to live up to your parents/grandparents/great grandparents.
I went with a nord. I wanted interaction bonuses, and I thought the cold bonus would be nice in a frozen land. Also managed to make a character that looks like Mila Jojovich and the lady who played Kara Thrace had a completely insane kid.
Well, no. Really, I chose Nord because I could get her closest to looking how I wanted. I usually play Redguards.
Started out as an Imperial Sword/Shield type but started a new game a few hours in. There I picked a Dark Elf (with black eyes, awesome inclusion Bethesda!) called Onyx. Just liked the look (really like how the races look in this) and wanted to try something other than Human (which I usually always play). Playing as a Spell Sword.
Want to try all the races/combo's though! Will try to "finnish" (if that is possible) first play through with my Dunmer and then aganise if I should go with an Orc 2H Barbarian or a sneaky dual wielding Argonian (damn they look awesome in this one imo) or a Breton Mage...cannot decide!
When I am finished with this Char, strongly thinking of making an Orc 2H barbarian type char...or a dual wielding Argonian...cannot decide...too many decesions!
