I have a feeling that this is going to be a very polarizing post, however the other day I started thinking about the possibility of something like this. I was thinking about how I absolutely love Skyrim, but how it is lacking a multiplayer mode, which I love in any game. I think the reason is that I like human competition much more than going against a computer. By no means am I saying that I want Skyrim to be like Runescape of World of Warcraft, I mean that I think it would be worth a try to let it have a multplayer team based mode similar to a Call of Duty, but with swords, magic, and bows.
You would still be able to do a character creation mode, and each character would still have its racial boosts and abilities, however one major difference would be the loss of being able to increase your health by leveling up. This would just ensure that the playing field is still somewhat leveled. However, you would still be able to increase your stamina and magicka. If you have ever played Battlefield, you would know what I invision the leveling/class system to be. Before you spawn, you would select your class that you choose to fight with. There would be a Mage class, an Archer class, a tanking/warrior class, and an assassin class. In the mage class, you would have a magicka boost, your weapon would be a staff, or dual handed spells, you would have mage robes, and your job on the team would be not only dealing damage with destruction, but you can also heal your allies. Archer class, you get a sneak boost and an archery boost, you would be given a bow, arrows, and light armour. Warrior class, you get a stamina boost and a health boost, you get your choice of any melee weapon with the only restriction being that you cant dual wield, because that is for the assassin class. For the assassin class, you dual wield a weapon and have light armour, with increases to sneak and one handed (dual hand specific). For an example of how it would work, if you like to roll with the mage class, the more you help your team, whether it is killing foes or taking over forts, you get XP for that class. With the XP, you unlock upgraded weapons (spells in this case) and armour (better mage robes) for that class.
For the actual gameplay itself, I invision a massive battlefield experience with hundreds and hundreds of people playing at once on huge battlefields. The objective would be something like to take over the enemy forts (a capture the flag mode), to assassinate the other teams king (search and destroy mode), or just straight up kill the other team (deathmatch).

For those of you that have read this entire post, I would really like if you guys commented and let me know what you think. If you don't agree with some things, keep in mind that although I have put a good amount of thought into it, it is still a very rough idea. However, I do feel that if done right, it could be the start of a whole new epic genre. So please, let me know what you think.

Scratch the Call of Duty part, I'm thinking a lot more Battlefield-esque.

I only made that the title of the post, i didnt mean it literally. I meant massive wars at one time, similar to battlefield in the sense of the amounts of people that can be in a match at once. Everything else would be completely Skyrim-ized. Obviously it would suck if somebody just tried to combine the 2 games, what I was trying to elude to is Skyrim with a multiplayer that would be roughly modeled after a battlefield multiplayer. Once again though, I just thought of this in like a half hour the other day, and I haven't put too much constructive thought into it, so this idea is very rough. I think it could be extremely fun if done right. Full waged war very similar to something like from Lord of the Rings Return of the King.

We can only hope TES VI to be Multiplayer....

Okay...you guys are getting me all wrong.... and I can't really blame you. I do not want a free realm world multiplayer like in Runescape or World of Warcraft. I'm just saying that I think it would be really cool if they had a team based multiplayer mode. If you have ever played battlefield, my battlefield reference only refers to a weapon class system (instead of engineer, assault, support, and recon it would be Mage, Warrior, Archer, Assassin). If you have ever seen any Lord of the Rings movie, what I mean is that I wish there was a mode where it was like that. 2 teams pitted against eachother. Like what I was saying before is that maybe there could be different objectives such as taking over forts similar to capture the flag, or you have to kill the other teams king similar to search and destroy, and of course there could be a mode where you just want to kill everyone on the other side.

Giving it to you straight since 1869
It might not be bad, but you could expect some incredible lag for something this size.

Teritus, that is the only major downfall I was thinking. It would be the lag of Skyrim and Battlefield combined. and Skooma, 4 player Co-Op would be sick if they added that in.

I feel like this is a great idea. I've always wanted this kind of thing but it's never been made. The closest thing to this was Lord of the Rings:Conquest, and that was just bad. I would love the idea of the teams having that strategic teamwork element. I love the ideas for the game modes. I would love to see gigantic armies just going at it. The battles would be epic!

To Ren, I think you are the first person to really get the concept of what I am saying. Having 2 teams/sides pitted against eachother in a medieval war with blades, magic, bows, etc. just seems epic. and to Garrison, I've never played Diable 2, but I mean that they should have the multiplayer part as a side option, I don't want it instead of the single player.

I detest the idea.
truly.

I hate the whole "mathematics rpg" of "tank, healer, damage dealer, blahblahblah".

In finding "balance" to make the game "fair" you'd remove so much of the flavour.

4 player co-op? Hell yes.

Multiplayer deathmatch? Absolutely not.
it would be simplified, dumbed down and simply wouldn't feel like TES.

Guys, I love the opinions. This has proved exactly what I expected, that this post would be extremely polarizing. I can understand both sides completely. To BlackRat, that is one thing that I feared, but at the same time, I feel that if you were allowed to level uncontrollably, the people that are new to the game would get wrecked and never have the opportunity to build up their status/level.

Guild wars PvP is close to what you described. There is solo play, co op play and PvP. Cheap game too anymore. Not sure if anyone still plays, been a few years since I've played, but it was free to play.

It wouldnt be very fun, seeing as Skyrim is just hack and slash and wouldnt make for very interesting multiplayer combat.

Kai, I kinda agree with what you are saying. If a new company came out with a game like this, I definitely think that they could focus more on the fighting mechanics given the fact that they wouldnt have to create a whole world to go with it, just some battle fields. However, I think that the fighting mechanics should be closer to Skyrim than Dragon Age because Skyrim would give you more of a natural feel because of the fact that you can swing freely however you want. Thats just my opinion though.

I like your thinking, But I would prefer a system where you can jump in with your Single player character and the battles would be level based, such as if you join with a lvl 5 char, you would be fighting lvl 4-8. maybe have it go in sets of four like that, or anything really just as long as it didnt mean playing with a pre-set character Battlefield style. It would be a major win in my book.
