I only use a walkthrough when I just simply can't find it on my own. I was stuck on a puzzle for a day before I just gave up and went to look. In general though I prefer to find stuff out on my own.
My archer has Faendal as a follower. Yes, he can die very easily, but he has won a soft spot in her heart. My sword maiden just gets pissed off at followers. They get in her way, and usually end up on the wrong end of her swords. So she just sticks to traveling the world alone.
