Why did they use the Dawnguard and not The Vigilants of Stendarr?

Answering thread question in one post-
Because 'Vigilants of Stendarr' isn't a snappy DLC title.

The Vigilants are more like the Inquisition, the Knights of Stendarr are more the Paladin type.

never heard of knights of stendarr. and i belive Vigilants are a combination of inquister/paladin. hence the robes/armor mace and use of fire magic/lighting
