Has anyone done this quest yet , I have a xbox 360 and I cant get the mage to give the key to the door infact its not on the option when I speak to him do I have to kill the mage ? i would rather persuade him , or has my xbox 360 glitched this quest since the responses i have to say dont seem to help with this quest in any way . ANY HELP would be appreciated as I would like to be able to complete this quest .

You could always pickpocket it from his, that's what I did. Just save right before you do it that way if you fail you could just load up that save.
