Sid cracked a smile at the defusing tension, and gestured for the purple eyed girl to get on with it, her stepping forward to read each individual one by one. She would begin by offering a disarming smile, before placing one of her index fingers on one of their temples, as if she were about to drill into it. The process was over quickly, however. Once everything was said and done, Sid declared, "Drinks are on me, gentlemen and ladies!"
Over drinks, Sid figured he owed his new team some measure of an explanation, and so he explained himself. "Sorry if it seemed a bit invasive, but she's not... uh... not..." he hesitated before speaking, as just at that moment the purple eyed girl looked up from her drink, an innocently curious look on her face. "...not very subtle." He settled on diplomatically, before also adding, "And we've lost a great deal of good soldiers over little things. Like insanity, weak nerves, stupidity in over abundant amounts- or bravery if you wish to be diplomatic. Lying about abilities has also led more than a few to early graves, and there's always that friction that crops up between the wrong people at the wrong time. This gives us a way to see what you're capable of without wasting time or throwing you to the wolves before you're ready.
"So... now that we understand each other, let's talk business." He paused for a few moments to give everyone time to simmer down. "I've already got the assignment laid out and the team together, but not all of you are fit for this mission, and so you'll be reassigned to other missions and other teams. Hallis, Bethany, as of right now, you are to report to Sentinel Krux at the northern command post. Effective immediately." He gave them a few moments to absorb what he had said, his tone leaving no room for disagreement, before impatiently waving them off with a daring smile, as if sharing a joke with the remaining members who would, apparently, be staying.
Once they had left, he took another long gulp of his ale (a mug which was practically a small barrel), and set it down with a satisfying belch, which shook the entire establishment, and caused all of the occupants to stop what they were doing and offer a standing ovation. Jack of course joined in, though he quickly stopped to keep his sister from sneaking a few gulps of alcohol herself. After the commotion died down, Sid basking in it for all it was worth, he continued.
"We will have three days to prepare. On the fourth day, we meet in the Eastern District's Supply Station to collect the heavy duty equipment as well as those which are more... sensitive in nature. There we will go over the finer points of keeping up with the telepathic link which was established, if you haven't gotten the hang of it within the three day preparation stage, and discuss the finer points of the mission in detail. For now, just know that we're heading out into the wilderness, and expect to come under heavy assault. We'll be scouting for at least two weeks, with very little support, so be ready. The exact directions and locations will be revealed at the Armory, to reduce the chance of unpleasant surprises in the future if you catch my meaning. With that I have other business to attend to. Have fun getting to know each other." With that, he nodded and kept without a further word or waiting to hear any questions. That left his mysterious purple eyed companion to answer any questions, though she looked like she hadn't been paying the slightest bit of attention. Rather, she appeared to be paying a great deal of attention to her hair as she ran a comb through it repeatedly, altogether ignoring her surroundings.
"I knew I was going to love this job." Jack said with a grin, leaning his chair back on two legs and resting his feet on the table, absently keeping a mug of ale just within his sister's reach, as if daring her to try and take it.
