Hiya, I've googled but can't find any help 
I bought my friend's PC when he moved away, been playing Skyrim through his steam account until he gets a new PC and wants his account back... which is now
I figure I'll make a steam account, buy my own copy of Skyrim online and it should be fine, but will I be able to keep my current game data and character?
...And this is probably a dumb question but is it possible to legitimately (legally) play Skyrim on PC without using the stupid Steam client? I really hate that thing.
I hope someone knows! I have become dependent on this game and will certainly go into a dangerous state of shock if I have to stop playing.
