"I fight for the men I've held in my arms, dying on foreign soil. I fight for their wives and children, whose names I heard whispered in their last breaths. I fight for we few who did come home, only to find our country full of strangers wearing familiar faces. I fight for my people impoverished to pay the debts of an Empire too weak to rule them, yet brands them criminals for wanting to rule themselves! I fight so that all the fighting I've already done hasn't been for nothing. I fight... because I must."
Why did you support the Stormcloaks?

I now support the rebellion because they are the only ones in the "empire" doing anything to save the people from the Thalmor. Skyrim needs to be free, and the Empire is dying too fast.

I am hovering at the moment. I read a lot of pro-Stormcloak arguments that made me doubt my choices. But if you'd have to sum up what's so good about the rebels and what sucks about the Empire, what would you say?

I basically joined Stormcloaks because in the start, Imperials wanted to chop off my head. It made more sense to follow a fellow-"criminal" than follow the other. Even if Hadvar said my name wasn't on the list and the captain made the call. That was my choice for my first character

I really never thought it through. Stormcloaks were rebels and the Empire was the "fixed order". I like rebels and I find the rebel side more interesting for a story.

For any other character I've made, I didn't feel it was very important to choose. I overall like Stormcloaks more, I don't have a thing for Roman clothing and armor I guess.

Although, I still have to complete the whole Civil war from a Imperial view.

Can't say I support either side, personally.

My characters, on the other hand, tend to have their own reasons. My wood elf was seeking to undermine the Thalmor and thought the distraction of a free Skyrim would be helpful. My Khajiit overcame his distaste for the empire after the incident at Helgen and joined the legion after witnessing the racial tensions in Windhelm. My current Nord mage is rather nationalistic, seeking to replace the Dark Elf as archmage so a Nord will control the college. He will be joining in the Stormcloak's cause as well.

The vast majority of my characters tend to not care one way or the other enough to join either side.

I'm doing the Stormcloak side with my 2nd playthrough only because I sided with the Imperials the first time.

I can't hold it in anymore. APRIL FOOLS! I know it is a bit late, but I still hate the Stormcloaks, and will never side with them.

The DrunkenMage strikes.

The Empire is the best hope against the Thalmor: Are they? Majority of the Nobles are expressing an desire of peace between the Empire and Aldmeri Dominion. The Empire hasn't shown any willingness to act against the Thalmor, they're just sitting around on the defensive, with the Emperor, Titus Mede II assassinated. It then casts a great shadow of doubt over the Empire, because the Elder Council has been known to not work for the interests of the Empire, but their own pockets. Through dialogue we also know that Maven Black-Briar is bribing the Elder Council.

The Empire can't send Tullius any Legionnaires, because they're all on the Aldmeri Dominion's borders: Except that isn't the case, we also know from a letter sent to Maven Black-Briar from the Imperial City, that the Council is giving her Legionnaires to meet her Mead at the border, and personally escort bottles of mead... Talk about backwards priorities.

The Thalmor are only given free reigns in the Empire, because of Ulfric Stormcloak: Dialogue from Delphine, and even the Thalmor contradict this unsupported statement. The White-Gold Concordat, give the Thalmor free reign.

The Stormcloaks are racist: They're nationalistic, not racist. The Stormcloaks give no racism, in fact Galmar welcomes other races. They're allowed to join the Stormcloaks, just like any Nord.

Ulfric Stormcloak forces the Dunmer to live in the Gray Quarter by law: Except they weren't forced, the Gray Quarter was around long before Ulfric Stormcloak, the Dunmer arrived in Windhelm as refugees and the Nords gave them an entire district for free. They also don't want to leave the Gray Quarter, and two Dunmer actually live outside of the Gray Quarter.

Ulfric banished the Argonians: That he did, but there is possibly racial tensions between the Dunmer and Argonians. That seems to be suggesting even violence, the Imperial sided Jarl won't even let them inside for their 'safety'. Interestingly, Imperial supporters won't mention that an Dunmer in Windhelm forced an Argonian to go without food for two days.

Stormcloak Militia has no hope against the Aldmeri Dominion: Yes, a Militia doesn't have any hope. Except the Stormcloak army is being trained by ex Legionnaires at the end of the war, so they'll even be able to match, or possibly be better than the infamous Legions.

Skyrim needs the Empire for trade: Yes, and so does the Empire need Skyrim for trade. The East Empire Company, stays out of politics and there is no reason to believe they would simply stop. If the EETC is willing to look into trade deals with the Thalmor, would they be biased against an independent Skyrim?

So much of this is so well thought out and so accurate. The only 2 that I might argue with are:
"Stormcloak Militia..." - so what if they're being trained by former legionnaires. There are still far too few to offer the Dominion any threat. Even if every single able-bodied person in Skyrim were to become one, there simply aren't enough people for it to make an appreciable difference.
"Skyrim needs the Empire for trade..." - I call BS on the Empire needing Skryim for trade. The empire is a BIG place. What does Skryim have to offer except natural resources (there does seem to be a lot of iron and corundum about). Ice? Drauger (they make great house-boys/girls)? Juniper berries?

Does Galmar welcome other races? It seems more like Bethesda not want I to "limit player options" to me.

I know that that is a detail but if you look at thier battle cry which is more canon than saying "the devs had to leave it open." Is "Skyrim belongs to the NORDS!!!"
If they were more accepting wouldn't it be "Skyrim belongs to her PEOPLE!!!"

That is not nationalism. Especially since the nordic empire is dun dun dun The Septims Empire which now is the Mede's Dynasty. (From phone excuse the poor quality) There is something missing and it isnt just some minor oversight.

From what I know, I would assume that all Nords in the game say that. I could be wrong.

It is nord Stormies. If you are a stormcloak and have Lydia she will say it when attacking any non nord opponent ( though I think they have to be human. ..)

Side note. I have a few other points but also an essay due. If you can try to remind me..hopefully I wont fforget.

I have heard nord bandits say it...

The battle cries don't really mean anything anyways.

You are. The only ones I ever hear say that are Stormcloaks.

Maybe I am wrong, and Stormcloaks are just in it to remove non-nords.

Good thing I have a mod that allows me to get Hjerim without the Civil War.
