How do you backstab a Dragon?
Wow. Only things i'm lacking is a better driver and video card. Any idea on how much these two things would cost and how i could get them installed on my laptop?

You'd need to tell us the kind of laptop you have and the model number. Laptop graphic cards can be a bit finicky because of the limits of space available. Not all laptops have space to put a card. Most of the big box crap ones won't, for example.

But if you post your specs, we can tell you one way or another. If you can't install the hardware yourself, it will be a matter of finding a friend, or a mom and pop computer repair place near you. If you'd like to share your general location here, you are welcome to do so. Or if you want to PM it to me, I can search your local area for shops.
Well i just got this laptop last year, my mother bought it for me and i'm not sure of the exact price but i know it wasn't cheap. Any idea how i find the specs info?
Just google it. It's easy to find or I'm sure one of our gurus will post it again here on the forums. Alt you can always post on the help forum.

Now if i could just find a way to use a controller on a laptop pc.

See! I knew someone would come through for you! I have a cheap a** laptop that I bought 3 or 4 years ago from HP that runs SR fine and always has (but I use PS3 cause I don't know what to download to get my PS3 controller to work on either it or my new PC!). If you go that low though, try not to use too many mods.

It was up until Microsoft's policy that I was 100% Console. However I have a history with modding Halo and all of it's later games so I know the value of Modding and the depth it can provide. With Steam's just past summer sale and the Xbox One's information (which I highly think Microsoft will revert it back to within a year or so) I sold all of my consoles and games except my Nintendo consoles, PS1 and 2. I put the money towards Skyrim for PC, and many PC games I had been wanting for a long time. Now I'm working towards a PC that I can call my own.

Don't get me wrong. Consoles in my opinion have an advantage to PC (One zealot PC gamers disagree with). Physical Disks. I'm not against going full digital (thus me switching to PC and selling my consoles) However, with Microsoft's stand to control the power of the disks by making them fail in their original plan (I am aware they changed it.) was for me, the final straw.

For me, disks I could always play, every day like the SNES and other systems I have are part of my gamer life, and that is something going full digital imo won't be able to replicate. The feeling of putting an old school cartridge into that system I grew up with as a kid, and letting me dust off the feeling of growing older and feeling like a kid again is something no computer will ever be able to do.

However, Mods kick ass and I love modding. I go into the future with Steam, and will enjoy the consoles of my childhood at my pace.

They aren't. I'm sure with time though, they will try again with the practices they tried with Xbox One.

Speccy.

Also, check on the laptop for a model number (like underneath or on a sticker).

Are you running Windows?

Here's a site with step by step to find out your computer specs for Windows. The first tab and the highlighted part of the display tab are the most important.

http://www.wikihow.com/Find-Video-Card-Specs
I couldn't copy and paste that info for some reason so i wrote down the important looking stuff, here it is.
operating system: windows 7 home premium 64-bit (6.1, build 7601)
system manufacturur: hewlett-packard
system model: hp g72 notebook pc
processor: intel (R) core (TM) i3 cpu m370 @2.40ghz (4cpus) ~2.4ghz
If u need more info let me know.

I don't think there will be enough space for a dedicated graphics card in that laptop. but I did find something that you may want to look more into.

You could try to get a GPU working externally for your laptop.
From what I found, is that it just requires this to be connected to your laptop through an Express Card slot (and if your laptop doesn't have one then you can get an adapter), and then connect the GPU to the PE4H, and it should work; you can also check here and here for more information on compatibility.

Yea i didn't think so, only reason i listed that info was to prove a point. I also talked to my mother today who purchased my laptop, $887.99 after tax is what it cost when it was ordered last year, so yea at that price and still can't handle Skyrim. Who knows maybe one day i'll win the lottery and then i'll play it on pc. lol
Thanks for trying to help btw.

If she paid $887 for that, then she was ripped off.
That laptop was never anywhere near worth that price.

I was thinking about getting a gaming laptop a couple years back, and the ones I was looking at were between $700-$800, and, like I said, was several years ago.

That laptop is only worth around $400, and last year it was probably around $450 ($500 at most).

Just because you pay a lot for something doesn't mean you get what you pay for.

You could build your own? I just checked with my friend and she says you can put one together with the specs needed for about $450 (at least here in Oregon) at the bare minimum. Just a thought.

Unfortunately this is looking like one of those on-upgradable graphics laptops. I'm looking at various sites and have yet to see anyone talking about adding a real graphics card. There was a sniff of someone replacing the whole motherboard, but if you're going to go that far, you might as well get a new machine.

This has become really problematic for people who get laptops these days because if you read what the description is for this laptop, or any of them with the embedded chip, it sounds for all the world like it should display anything. But it's crap for anything except being a glorified web browser and word processor.

As Sean said, the price paid for your machine was a rip off. And it's sad because in the end, people are willing to pay for something that should be good and works as advertised but the devil is always in the details.

I did a quick glance on ebay and even my old beast ran for between $150 and $350.

Anyway, if you're really in the market for a PC, there are tons of people here who can help you spec something out that's within your budget. Be kind. No one here gets paid to help anyone else. But we have a whole lot of really smart and talented folks who excel in all kinds of things that are willing to help someone out if asked nicely.

If you're on a budget getting a laptop for PC gaming is not a sound investment because they cost much more than desktops and have a lower lifespan for gaming. This PC gaming desktop retails for $689 plus shipping costs and can handle Skyrim on Ultra settings. A comparable gaming laptop would cost two times that amount or more.

It depends on how recent the purchase was. I've noticed a disturbing trend of increasing prices for gaming laptops from reputable online specialist retailers like powernotebooks and agearnotebooks. A few years go you could have gotten one of the lower end MSI or Asus gaming laptops for around $800-$900, but today the lower end models are priced several hundred dollars higher. Retailers like Xotic PC only offer laptops with Intel HD graphics for lower prices. I suspect this is because we've reached a point where gaming laptop hardware components are beginning to outpace the demands of high end PC games which means the old addage of shorter lifespan for gaming laptops versus gaming desktops is going to become less true.

Video game software developers can only push the demands on PC resources so far and when you look at the amount of detail on games like Arkham City and Skyrim maxed out with visual improvement mods, it's hard to imagine developers being able to do much more. MMOG's can push the envelope further but the developers generally are reluctant to do this because they know it will reduce their consumer base (too much of the performance demands would be on the server side which can't be compensated by client side settings). This is why a conscious decision to dumb down the graphics for The Old Republic was largely based on keeping the demographic that could play the game larger. The graphics were vastly inferior to those of the game trailers produced by Blur Studios (contrasted to the graphics being identical in the game and the trailers for Mass Effect 3).

What all this is that means there will be fewer purchases of new gaming laptops as the practical lifespan of the gaming laptop is going to increase by several years at this rate. I suspect this is why prices for gaming laptops have been going up.

I played on ps3 for about 6 months left for about 6 months when my daughter was born.

We needed a new computer anyway, so I got a $600 HP laptop from Bestbuy with a video card. It runs fine on high setting, even with over 150 mods running. I tried tons of mods, and unistalled what I either didn't like or got tired of. I'm probably running 30-40 now.

It runs even better and looks even better on custom settings
