Xbox 360 Ebony Blade still level up without doing the quest?

I done the plate glitch to get through the wall and obtain the Ebony blade at a lower level for my Death Knight character. I haven't done the quest yet i killed four trustworthy people.

-The 2 Riverwood traders from the Golden Claw and relationship triangle quests.
- Faendal the follower when i helped him in Riverwood
-The beggar in Whiterun after i got him the Argonian ale and gave him a gold coin.

The weapon's charge is still blank and it doesn't appear to have increased in power. The Whispering lady also never spoke to me after the second kill.

Didn't want to do the quest because then i would have to do the dragon quest and trigger annoying dragon spawns for eternity.

I'm guessing it doesn't work if you don't do the quest, has anyone else tried this?

I've not tried it personally, however I did see some other people saying the same as you on some other sites.
