Dawnguard before Dragonborn?

I just acquired Dawnguard and intend for at least one of my guys to side with the vampires.

If later, I purchase Dragonborn, can that vampire character be my main in that DLC without being cured first?

I searched for info but may have overlooked the answer.

If I understand correctly, yes. My mage is a vampire lord and I've had no trouble regarding her being one on Solsthiem.

If I go back to Fort Dawnguard though, Isran won't talk to me until I get cured, even after completing the main quest of that DLC.
