Can't seem to survive Oblivion

We got Oblivion for PS3 a while back...been trying to play off and on, but I can't seem to get anywhere.

I got as far as being ready to challenge the champion in the arena, got a couple of magical weapons and some decent magical armor, but still it seems like all I do is die. I got sword training,
got a magic sword, keep it charged, etc., but it still takes like 320 hits to do any damage, and
they take huge chunks out of my health with every swing.

What am I doing wrong?

If you are talking about the half Orc grand champion that is a very hard fight for everyone.

You can do a quest he offers that may increase your chance.

Yeah, I agree with Adventurer, do the quest he gives you, but make sure you have a Cure Disease potion with you.

Yes both comments above are strategies I used when fighting him

Thanks guys. I'm sorry, must have missed notifications for the other responses. I ended up mozying on down the road from Oblivion, but I may go back and will try his quest.
