Bounty for freeing a stormcloak soldier... or....??

I killed 4 imperial soldiers and the stormcloak which they captured ran away but I managed to free him.
Then I ran into Kynesgrove and there were a couple stormcloaks and they said I had a bounty of 40, but for what? I paid it ofcourse, but I did lost quite a few stolen potions
I know you get 40 bounty for hitting somebody, but when did I do that?
Could that be a long time before that?
I killed all the imperials, I didn't saw if I got a bounty from that, don't except it either.
And I know I didn't hit the stormcloak soldier, which I free.

Maybe anyone got an idea? Can't think of anything :S

It sounds like to me it may be something from a long time ago. If you didn't hit the Stormcloak.

I remember doing this once, I don't recall getting a bounty.

Hmm before that I mined in the ebony ore mine, forgot the name.
I did stole quite a lot there, but I don't think anybody caught me.
And I don't remember hitting any of the orcs there.
