Few JRPGs in recent memory have been fought over like the 3DS's Bravely Default (Flying Fairy). This game became well-known in JRPG fan circles before it was localized as the only game Square-Enix had released in the last five years that came close to the output of their golden age. People demanded it for a long time, but Square remained apathetic to American handhelds, and eventually it had been years since its Japanese release and the possibility looked to be long gone.

Then out of nowhere Nintendo localized the game themselves and released it in 2014. The egg was on Square's face as the game defied sales expectations a zillionfold. You would think, with a sequel now completed, they wouldn't make the same mistake twice. But they're handing it to Nintendo again.

Who's really complaining from this end, though? We get Bravely Second, and that's all that matters. Short gameplay and cinematic clips were shown during this morning's Nintendo Direct, and the game was confirmed to hit the streets sometime around the winter of 2016 (probably around the same time Bravely Default hit two years prior).

Expect more details about the English version of Bravely Default, now subtitled "End Layer," as its release creeps closer.
