Now that Fallout 4 is out for all platforms, we can start bickering with each other over which version is the best.
Eurogamer.net ran both the PS4 and XBox One versions of Fallout 4 side by side and analyzed both their performances. For the most part, they appear to be the same. Both look very similar, with the same texture resolution and the same screen resolution (1080p). "Each [console] uses the same grade of screen-space ambient occlusion, to match PC's highest, and effects quality is identical too. With everything being so close in the visual stakes though, how does the frame-rate on these machines hold up?"
The framerate was where they found the difference. Both run at 30fps, but the XBox One develops stuttering issues from time to time. "Each has their blips, but having tested two separate Xbox One and PS4 consoles, the results are always the same across the world at large; we get sizeable stutters on Microsoft's console that aren't present on PS4." At one point, they registered 0fps on the One, while the PS4 ran the same area at 28fps.
This caused them to rule in favor of the PS4 -- but this may not be the case forever, as the stuttering problem could easily be fixed. "Evidence so far suggests those buying
Fallout 4 on console should get an overall smoother experience from PS4. It's far from perfect, and we have a suspicion re-tests will be due once each machine receives new patches down the line."
Of course, the PC version wasn't included in testing because its performance depends on your hardware. If you own something cutting-edge, the PC version is probably best.
