I'm interested to see what peoples views on the holds are. My favourite used to be Riften however recently I changed that opinion to markath. I love this city because it is very cultural and has a lot of history. It has its own ruins and two temples. I also like how there are forsworn. I also like because there are both those fighting for ulfric and the empire making it very diverse. I also think the law there is cool, its horrible at times but more diverse than any of the other holds. I also like the prisons, again completely different. I love how they make you work in it instead of just sitting there.

Wants your favourite hold and why? I guess you could include dlc holds aswell. And I you want say your worst.

Winterhold. There are so many fewer bodies when I go on a killing spree and there's a convenient cliff to throw them off. :)

I would say my worst is mortal. There's hardly anything to do there and it hardly a city. I hate how its cold and windy as well. I like falkreath but have a complaint: They say it has the biggest grave yard in all of skyrim but its about the size of my animal graveyard in the back garden.

My favorite is actually Whiterun. I guess it holds a lot of nostalgia because that's one of the first places you go, plus it just has a homey feel to it and the people are nice, mostly. Plus there is not a ton of DAMN SNOW. I get so sick of the snow obscuring my view and messing things up in the northern parts of Skyrim.

I know you didn't ask, but my least favorite I would have to say either Morthal or in fact Markarth. Now, Markarth is definitely a unique city and I find the structure of it very interesting and appealing with the waterfalls and all, although the city does have a cold feeling to it. I just HATE the damn people there, and then the forsworn conspiracy quest didn't help matters. During the quest, I messed up in an outrage and killed all the damn guards in my beast form. I was pissed. So now the town hates me, and I hate it. And it's just fine that way.

I actually really like Morthal. Despite it lacks a smith and a general store, the layout of the city is cool and the location, although creepy also adds a layer of depth.

It may be because I really love Idgrod Ravencrone. She is just so amazing in my opinion. Definitely my favorite Jarl.

So my vote goes to Hjaalmarch.

Least Favorite may actually be Whiterun. The fact that it remains the most important hold in the game irks me. I mean Riverwood is more important to the storyline than Markarth, let alone any of the minor holds. And it's too large and too empty. At least 2/3rds of it is empty tundra.

Whiterun here too, and for some of the same reasons. I couldn't have said it better.

Whiterun (With a couple of mods which upgrade it a tad)
First hold I go to and it is the only hold where I will buy a house in :)

My favourite hold is The Rift, simply because I love Riften. I like the city's architecture, the characters, the colours of the forest surrounding it and also the fact that it's home to the Thieves' Guild.

My least favourite hold would have to be The Pale because it has my least favourite city. I don't dislike Dawnstar altogether, but it is small and there isn't much there.

Whiterun, Falkreath and The Rift are my favourite holds. I don't like the northern snowy ones (even before using Frostfall it didn't suit me) and I have a particular, probably irrational, hatred for the Reach, although bits of it do look pretty.

For cities it's Solitude followed by Whiterun, then Riften. My least favourites are Markarth and Windhelm - in both of those the people, the quests and the architecture just frustrate me.

The Rift is my favorite. The wilderness in the area is pretty, and reminds me of autumn. Riften itself is also nice; I love the docks with the canal running through the town. My least favorite is the Pale. I spend as little time there as possible. Someone else beat me to this answer I see.

Windhelm for me, it's got that dominating feel about it. Perfect for a battle hardened dragon hunter.

Solitude is my personal favourite due to its beautiful Imperial architecture and epic location atop that enormous arch, which still manages to impress me every time I see it, and overall has a fairly pleasant atmosphere. My least favourite is either Winterhold or Falkreath, but probably Falkreath due it being quite possibly the dreariest capital in the province and the fact that I prefer snow to rain.

Out of all the Elder Scrolls games I've played, however, my ultimate favourite would have to be Chorrol. Gorgeous town.

I was kidding when I said Winterhold (although the town is pathetic, the Hold itself has some cool stuff).

I actually prefer the Rift or Haafinger, but I do like the Pale as I can get my favorite home there (Heljarchen).

While I do like Eastmarch (the scenery is awe inspiring), the Forswarn get on my nerves.

I have things I like and dislike about each, but let me go into more detail.

I like the Rift because of the lovely deciduous forests and the lakes and rivers. However, it feels so small compared to the endless tundra that covers most of the other holds.

I like the Reach because of the gorgeous mountains and the incredible waterfalls. However, the freaking Forsworn are so obnoxious and they're everywhere.

I like whatever Hold Dawnstar is in because I do like the area where you can build your hearthfire home, it's a very nice little stretch of land.

    That's all I gotta say. :D

For me it is Riften, because of the thieves guild and the temple of Mara. It is also I'm a cool area.

I like Falkreath, the town itself feels like one of those places where everyone knows everyone and they help each other out. I really like the surrounding woods, which look beautiful and are full of things to hunt and do.

Not sure if it counts, but my most favorite would have to be Riverwood. The forests surrounding it and the lake running throughout.. Just beautiful. My favorite actual hold though would have to be Riften. I mean c'mon, it's like constant autumn everywhere and it's the home of the Thieves Guild. Instant awesome.

My views on this have continually evolved as I've played different characters. My first character made his home in Markarth. He liked living among the corruption, and sleeping on a bed of stone. He hated Windhelm.

My second character (Kohlar the Unkilled) preferred Solitude, and obliterating the Markarth garrison because he refused to cooperate with the Forsworn conspiracy. And he hated Windhelm, but eventually ended up owning property in every hold.

Malkjar the Malignant favors Windhelm. Perhaps the reason being that this was the first time I joined the Stormcloaks. That side of the civil war seemed a richer, more involved story and I came to appreciate Windhelm, even though it's layout is somewhat inconvenient.

Kahn the Argonian lives in Ravenrock, as he detests all of Skyrim. When he sails to Skyrim, it's for the purpose of trading, raiding, killing, and general destruction. He holds bounties in excess of 100 thousand septims in every hold except Winterhold.

Finally, Chef Ramsay really has no preference thus far, as he's still relatively new to this sort of adventuring. He owns the modest Breezehome in Whiterun, where he'll live until he can afford to open his restaurant in the middle of Haafingar. It'll be called, The Middle Fingar. :beermug:

Dawnstar, because its the home of the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary and I also like the Dawnstar Hearthfire home the most.
