Traps - Is it just me, or are they weak?

I play on the base setting, no crafting. Game is challenging, if not careful and plan a little, I can die in fights.

So, when Isee a row of swinging death axes that should instantly kill me...why is it that all I think of is "sweet, can get my restoration up" and just walk through them like they're not even there.

I mean, they do a little damage, but not enough to really care.

This a bug? Do I have a death wish? dull blades?

This is a bit of a roleplay/gameplay problem. I love spotting those traps and disarming them before they get me regardless of the damage they do, at the same time, I would hate it if I had just put in 30 minutes, missed one and died instantly. Essentially, when I miss/Stand on on a trap, the game is giving me a slap and saying "Pay attention!" which is much better than "haha reload."

The only instant kill traps I've come across are the spiky swinging gates of death which my follower usually trips. I think the traps are mostly for flavor and setting and to keep you on your toes as the above poster mentioned.

The spinning blades are deadly, well after you activate them

Yeah those swinging blades are just awful.. so are the oil/fire traps... ESPECIALLY when you have J'zargo as a follower and he comes rushing in dual casting flames... *sigh*. He WILL make a fine rug someday.

I think there's one or two pit-type traps on the general Skyrim map that you can fall into that lands you onto some wooden spikes... those hurt just walking through them as I try to loot the corpses o_O

Hey, I just took an arrow in the throat and I was fine. Probably explains why I'm not a guard.

Thank you for bringing this up. This has always bugged me. The traps are annoyances. And a good trap should be much more than an annoyance to an intruder. I have never "feared" a trap in Skyrim, and I think if the traps were more hardcore it would make the game that much more realistic, which is the reason I enjoy Skyrim in the first place. The realism of it all.

You can use magic on ward spells to 'trip' them and if you're looking for a death trap, stand on those circular floor pistons that lift/impale/crush you against ceiling spikes....tonnes of fun:D

Slow Rider Traps are annoyances! An animal can be caught by a trap but death usually comes much later by loss of blood. A sentient human being can also be killed by a trap, especially in the modern era, but Skyrim isn't set in modern times. Oh yeah, step in a bear trap and it's gonna hurt, but in the magical world, you can deal with it in several different ways. Wait, heal (magic), heal (potion), Heal (food). Or Learn never to step in Bear traps again. :) Oh but wait wait what' that arriving as I'm healing myself, oh Sh..... DEAD

I've always experienced great pleasure in killing Draugr with that swinging gate trap.

I have scale-itch... Don't ask how I got it.
There's also floating gas traps. There are some rock and battering ram traps that could insta kill you. I mainly use traps against opponents because I have the pressure plate perk.

The swinging axes is lame however as many have mentioned there are more chalenging traps , on my first go around beceuse of the easy traps in the beginning i didnt care much for the dungeon traps , to my downfall till i met the swinging blades of death they are deadly , However it would be awsume if there was a mod out there that made the traps more realistic also that will make the gameplay insane , nice for those of us that are more into the realistic feel of it ....... any agree ?

There is one dungeon I went to, where you have to stick to the shadows, cause stepping in the light will kill you pretty fast. Also sudden bursts of flame from the floor always catch me off guard and drain my health. Yeah, the swinging blades are weak, the swinging doors on the other hand used to kill me instantly before I leveled up my health.

Why don't you set the difficulty to master? I assure you, traps are far more deadly in that mode.

I agree however the swinging axes are still lame at master even in the low levels ...... However the others can get deadly ... The Spinning Blades however are still the most affective and annoying ...

I agree, the swinging blades are not really a trap they are more a flavor anyways. Traps are a whole different catagory and some are very deadly and others a moderate nussance. I would honestly not even include the swinging blades in the same catagory as traps as a trap is something you are not aware of and suprises you. Whereas those are right up in your face. I guess they would be considered more of a *challenge*, though not much of one. I just, like most, just run thru them. Agreed on the spinning blades being one of the nastiest traps. I have not found that gas/light dungeon yet. What's its name?

I like to find ways to trip the traps. Sometimes to kill the enemies. When ever I see the "shimmering" of a gas trap I step way back and fire a firebolt into it and fry anything in there - Stoney Creek Cave is one of these.
even though I have the perk to not set off pressure plates, when I see them I usually find something near by that I can pick up and drop on the plate. Usually this is good because then my follower won't set it off and get smashed.
Rune traps are kind of deadly and sometimes really hard to spot. however when I do I again, back up, and toss a projectile spell at them which usually trips them.
Trip wire traps are fun haha... If I don't see an enemy nearby that can be lured to it, I usually break out a cheap arrow and shoot them.
One of the other traps I find usually fun to catch enemies in, is the ones where there is flamable fluids on the ground and the hanging pots over head. I'll almost always try to lure something into them but most of the time I'll shoot the pots with an arrow and see what burns.
