    The year is 2016.​
    11 years since the Channels were discovered.​
    Channels: ordinary people with extraordinary powers.​
    The first Channel was discovered in Chicago, IL, in April 2005. A sixteen-year-old young boy,​
    barely out of high school. He had the power to manipulate rock and stone.​
    He abused this power, to the point of causing an earthquake and tearing down most of Chicago's skyline.​
    He was eventually captured, and taken to a prison, where they worked out a way to cancel out his powers. He was imprisoned there, with no way to escape.​
    After this event, more powers started to crop up. The public called the extraordinary people "Channels", but the governments of Earth classed them as terrorists; they weren't willing to undergo another disaster like Chicago. The official name granted to them was "Hunters", in order to make the Channels seem more menacing to average humans.​
    Thus a new age began; Channels were discovered all over the world; one in every fifty million children born was a Channel, each with unique powers. These powers were discovered to remain dormant until the age of 10; after that age, most Channels discovered their powers. If a person got to 20 and hadn't discovered any powers, then they were likely not to have any, unless they were a very rare case.​
    With the realisation that Channels would just keep coming, the governments forged the Daynes Treaty, named for James Daynes, who proposed the idea; the Daynes Treaty stated that all the governments of the world must act together in this instance. Each country would have their own Special Defence Department, an SDD. The best of the best would be selected to fill roles in the SDDs; hackers, soldiers, leaders, anyone that could help deal with the "Hunters".​
    Many Channels have managed to escape the prisons set up for them using the power-cancelling technique, living in peace beside humans in secret. But many have also decided to take vengeance on humanity; with two variants taking form. Some merely wanted to mutate every single human to have powers, and others purely wanted the complete destruction of the human race, so that the Channels could start from scratch.​
    Around the year 2011, another variant of Channel was discovered. Some people had no powers of their own, but could temporarily "learn" weakened versions of powers through touching the original Channel. A classification system was introduced; Primary Channels were ones that had their own powers, and Secondary Channels could leech weakened powers for a short time, and so were less of an issue.​
    In any case, the Channels are global. You are one of them; you may choose one of three goals. Either live peacefully alongside humans, free of secrets.​
    Mutate them all so they know your pain.​
    Or simply destroy them all.​
    The choice is yours, but will you make the right one?​
    RULES
    1. Respect each other; we're here to have fun, not to argue amongst ourselves.
    2. Language is okay, to a certain extent. This is an 18+ RP, but excessive use of foul/racist words will not be accepted.
    3. Your Channel may be of any origin you like; American, British, Japanese, anything. However, remember that all our Channels must come together at some point. You should have the ability to travel overseas, either using powers or simply getting on a plane.
    4. There will be two sides to this RP; each, hopefully, with 5-6 people. There will be the righteous ones, hoping to prove to humanity that they can live peacefully alongside them; and there will be the others, call them what you will, who wish either to mutate everyone or kill everyone. Arguments may crop up between Channels who have different views on the world, but it's all part of the story; keep it IC, and away from the OOC.
    5. This RP is 18+, so be aware that there may well be violence, language, and sexual themes, along with anything else mature that might crop up. If you can't handle these, don't bother applying.
    6. Please, no cliche superpowers like superstrength and flight. Have interesting powers that have weaknesses, and can be used to cancel out the need for flight/quick movement. An example will follow in my CC.
    7. Once your CC is submitted, I'll survey it and tell you if anything needs changing. The character itself should never need changing, but powers might; each Channel can have up to two powers, and a third if it relates closely to one of your others. For instance, one character may have water powers alongside his other power; in that case cryokinesis (ice powers) are also allowed, due to the close relation. I will tell you whether you need different powers; certain combinations might result in OP, death-bringer characters. And we all know, that OP characters are no fun; have a weakness. Be willing to be beaten once in a while. Hopefully that should result in a friendly, realistic RP.

This is up for discussion; if someone else claimed a power you like, you can talk to them about how you could edit that power for yourself; however, I don't want this to take up the majority of powers. I will also post a list of powers below; for ideas, if anyone cannot think of a power.​

    Isabel generally wears things that make her foes underestimate her (as above for instance). She usually wears a shirt with 3/4-length sleeves, leaving her hands free for her powers. Almost always wears a black beanie hat to keep her hair from blowing in the wind she can conjure. Alternates between leather jackets and woolen cardigans, and always wears either skinny jeans or shorts, along with tights to keep her legs warm, and (either heeled or not) boots for security.

    POWER DETAILS
    AEROKINESIS An extremely useful power; helps Isabel get around quickly. She can dissipate her particles into the wind and blow them somewhere else, reassembling herself where she needs to be. This can be extremely disconcerting for anyone who sees her reassemble.
    Another ability her aerokinesis gives her is the ability to generally control the wind. Using this, she can throw heavy objects at enemies, or simply throw small particles to damage eyes and throats, etc.
    Isabel can also hover for a short time using her power, though this causes a great amount of disruption to the ground below her due to the wind being thrust downwards.

    PHOTOKINESIS Generally a support-heavy power. Isabel mostly uses it to cast great amounts of light into the eyes of her enemies, or to cause a distraction, or even to create an apparent body-double of herself to run across enemies' views, so as to lead them away from where she needs to be. However, photokinesis can also be useful when stealth is a necessity; one of the easiest abilities photokinesis gives Isabel is the ability to bend light. Her education in physics made her realise that she could use this to bend light around herself or other objects, rendering them invisible as no light would be reflected from the object. However, this can be difficult to maintain when the object in question is in motion; it generally works better when she or the object is stationary.

    BIOGRAPHY
    CHILDHOOD Isabel was born to two very happy, very rich parents who already had well-paid jobs and a large house in which to raise Isabel. The majority of her childhood was normal, or as normal as a rich child's life can be. She took part in swimming contests, which made her much stronger than she looked, and became an extremely accomplished swimmer. She had many friends in her primary school, despite her relatively highborn English accent among the normal children, which was made an object of bullying many times, though her friends helped defend her.
    She graduated primary school with fantastic scores, and went on to secondary school.

    TEENAGE YEARS Isabel maintained her normal life, though staying away from boys on her father's request, ignoring the many advancements made on her. When the time came to choose what she wanted to do at a higher level of education, she decided on a set of decidedly science-based subjects. Her favourite subjects were maths, physics and biology, and she excelled at them, receiving excellent grades at the end, and carrying them through into A-Level. Again, she excelled, getting A's all round.
    However, just after she left school aged 18, intending to go to the local university to study physics, she discovered her powers. Her parents immediately rejected her, having heard on the news of the Channels, who were primarily based in the United States and China, with some having settled in smaller, more remote countries. She was handed to the SDD, the Special Defence Department of MI5, before escaping and getting on the first plane to America, hoping to find friends there. New York was no good, as were D.C., Philadelphia and Chicago, so she headed to the western seaboard instead; deciding to settle in Los Angeles.

    ADULTHOOD Along her trip across the States, Isabel practiced her powers in secret, hiding them from the truckers she caught a ride from. She discovered how each could be used, and decided that they could be extremely useful to her; but that she would only use them for good, or at least what she considered as good.
    Upon reaching LA, she decided to take on a new identity, to prevent any authorities in the US finding her and imprisoning her. She dyed her hair purple, intending to look like a rebellious young girl so she'd be overlooked. However, she tried to maintain her English accent, so as to maintain at least some of her old identity. She settled under a bridge, blocking it off from the elements using a combination of her powers and plywood boards, and began to look for some kind of job.
    She found herself working as a writer in a well-known local newspaper, paid fairly well though it wasn't a particularly social job.
    She built herself up, from living under the bridge to buying her own house, her own clothes, and paying her own bills. She was happy in her house, but Isabel found herself constantly worrying that either the SDD or the American equivalent would find her, and take her to whatever prison had been repurposed for Channel use.

    POWERS Unstable Matter. Edward's body hasn't a definite shape, being usually his combat form, a green slimey blob that varies in size. Other than being slightly noxious in this form, Edward can change his shape, stretch fairly long, double himself (although with half his usual size), and survive very high falls. Not having bones grants him a decent flexibility and, if he wanted, he would be able to display himself as a shield that would slow bullets fired at his allies.

    CLOTHES
    If he can help it, Reed chooses dark clothing above colors that gather too much attention. As a man who transforms fairly often, he has no definite style, and usually just leaves his current garbs where he transforms, picking new ones up from someone he kills afterwards.
    POWER DETAILS
    UNSTABLE MATTER The power Edward mostly uses. Unstable matter got him out of sticky situations more times than he can count, thanks to the ability of slipping through drains and other seemingly untrespassable grates. Edward's vintage offensive move usually consists of stretching his arms towards high spots, slingshooting himself to a few dozens of meters in the air, allowing him to slam his body against the ground and crush whoever finds himself in the unlucky position below him. In case of being matched, Edward may become flat and spread on the ground, trapping his foes' feet and preventing them from moving. Whenever he thinks it is safe for him to re-materialize himself above the ground, he will tangle himself around the helpless victim and attempt to crush them where they stand.

    NOXIOUS MATTER Edward hardly uses this power, as the poison can hardly kill those he wants it to kill. If he seeks to kill a populace, he might try diving in the closest river to poison the people, or he might just trample people in attempts of making them ingest their deaths.

    BIOGRAPHY
    CHILDHOOD It is unknown whether Edward became a Channel or was born one already. Even though he was a son of an American couple, before his mother gave birth to him, his parents would already be living in Germany. He had always been one of the quietest kids in class and didn't distinguish himself much around school. Reed couldn't rely on many friends, nor in good grades, but he managed to live through his childhood with little problems, both economically and psychologically.

    TEENAGE YEARS Eventually Edward was slightly pushed by his parents into following sciences in high school. Like primary school, his grades were average, and no friends were at sight when he needed them. Thanks to his height, nobody picked on him, but he lacked human contact and needed ever more desperately someone to speak to. In order to get the kids used to lab works, the school organized a field trip to a large Research Lab in Berlin. There would never be time to check it all out in one day, even though some of the workers forbid very clearly the entrance in a secluded zone from the lab, guarded by a large steel door. Even though it went against his personality to disobey, Edward managed to sneak away from his group and steal an ID from a desk, granting himself entrance to the forbidden part of the laboratory. He would expect to find weapons, but instead found dangerous toxins that carried forbidden, unknown diseases. As his bony fingers touched one of the samples, the allarm sounded. In fact, it had nothing to do with Edward's deeds, but with an accident on another side of the laboratory. All the teens ran away to the exit of the lab, accompanied by security guards and scientists who had escaped the Channels' rage. All the teens, except Reed, who would be cowering in the forbidden area, too far to hear the instructions to run away. Soon the Lab would blow up and Edward went unconscious even before the explosion hit his location. Once he opened his eyes, he would no longer be himself. The iron bar that was eviscerating him didn't hurt, and somehow the wreckage of the building had gone through him instead of crushing him below it. He couldn't stand up, noticing with horror that his body was almost purely liquid, but he managed to crawl out of the ruins. Edward spent two weeks hidden in a dark quagmire, until he could finally take the shape of a human again. Even though he could walk again, he had to limb, which made him transform back into his slimey shape whenever not seen. Once he went back home, he wasn't allowed in by his parents, once he made them believe it had been him the one who caused the destruction, and in school the same happened, with more insulting dialogue. The rage made Edward turn into his true form without control, and made everyone back away from him, shouting different insults to how different he was. Reed did want to kill them, but the government arrived too soon, and forced him to retreat and cower for long.

    ADULTHOOD As his powers became more and more controllable, and the patrols that looked for him more frequent as well, Edward needed to flee to France and there, he tried to lead a normal life, saving up money to go back to America, his true home. Unfortunately, even there, he couldn't control his powers, which lead to awkward moments too often in his daily schedule. Eventually, the people of France found out about his true identity, and soon he would be unwelcome everywhere there as well. With no friends to turn to, no family to cry with, and nobody to hear him out, Edward abandoned the plan of saving up money to go to America, and chose to steal a plane and fly there on his own. Obviously, nobody masters the art of flying at the first try, but thanks to his power, Edward was able to trial and fail, surviving all his crashes and stealing from different airports, until he would have enough skill to fly across the Atlantic Sea, and jump off when he could see land below him. His plan to reach America had been successful, but the mission of leading a normal life there had failed as soon as he had reached the country. Landing on a cab in his slime form caused two officers to draw their guns, call him 'one of the monsters' and try to shoot him, which only drew a couple of holes in his body that were quickly refilled with the slimey matter that consisted him. Consumed with anger and frustration, and learning that mankind would never change into accepting someone as different as him, Edward used his powers for evil, killing everyone in that scene, and did one last change to his plans: destroy all the humans so that Earth would have peace and no more would suffer below mankind's feet.

    That's great! Only problem is the bio; for him to have discovered some Channels aged around 15, they would have had to have been around for about 20 years. They've been known for 11; you can possibly have known about your powers and kept them secret, but you can't have government prisoners nine years before they were noticed as Channels.

    Great. So when you say "he had to limb", do you mean limp? As in, he sort of hobbles around rather than walking properly?

However, fire is unpredictable at best, and sometimes he isn’t within full control of its power. His control over smoke is more or less for diversion tactics and movement, as he is not as “skilled” with it as he is with fire itself. However, it does allow him a sort of teleportation to get around quickly. Can use his emotions to increase damage potential, but puts himself at risk of serious injury.

    CLOTHES
    Brom’s clothing situation is...not very planned out. He can be usually found wearing something rather nice he finds in a torn down store two, but has a nasty habit of losing them when he finds himself in a spot of trouble.

    However, if he can help it, he is always seen wearing a nice jacket and jeans, as well as a beanie or a hat of similar make. He’s consistent like that.

    POWER DETAILS
    PYROKINESIS Generally can form fire just with his mind, causing all kinds of great concoctions of power, or just straight destruction. He can do the usual, such as fireballs and beams of raw flame. However, his favorite is creating whips of fire in each hand, and using that to do some serious damage. There are other moves, but I’ll explain them as time comes.

    TYPHOKINESIS Generally a support-heavy power, as well as his preferred way of travel. Brom uses smoke usually to cause confusion amongst his enemies either to escape or burn them up. He can manipulate the smoke to be a simple screen. But he is currently working on a technique where he casts smoke like a fog, and as the target wanders aimlessly, he shapes it into walking beings that in the blurred eye look like people, to cause even more mayhem.

    It needs a lot of work, however.

    He can turn into a tuft of smoke and move at an erratic pace, and this is his preferred way of movement.

    PATHO-ERGOKENESIS (Self only) Can funnel his emotions to cause a burst of strength and or power boost, however it makes him rather vulnerable, and he loses the rest of the control he has with his power. This power sometimes triggers itself, depending on how worked up her gets. Rarely uses.

    BIOGRAPHY
    CHILDHOOD Brom’s childhood was lost knowledge. Not many know of his past, as they don’t usually stick around him long enough to figure it out. Not like he is very willing to share, however.

    TEENAGE YEARS Brom’s teenage life was similar to many other boy’s whose parents were out of the the picture. However, Brom had a knack for burning buildings down.

    Well, more like anything he touched.

    It happened out of nowhere, literally as he was walking down the street, minding his own business. His fingers grazed a tree and the whole thing went ablaze. That was when Brom was immediately captured and was en route to be detained. However, his discovery of his smoke abilities rendered handcuffs useless, and he officially was on the run.

    Exact details on the incident and everything after are sketchy at best. The only way to know more is to talk to him.

    ADULTHOOD As Brom grew older, and as he continuously tried to find a stable place to call home, he practiced his gifts in secret. Unsure if he would need them, he couldn't deny that they were going to be the only thing that kept him out of the government’s hands.

    He has gained a great grasp on his powers, but they are still unpredictable at times, and can cause him to be found rather easily if he isn’t careful.

    Now he is currently squatting in an apartment building in Chicago, Illinois. How long he’ll stay is anyone’s guess...

    I like this instance of Brom; like a mix of Delsin from inFamous:SS and Ghost Rider :p I have a feeling that so far, all our good characters will be close friends; whether Simus picks Jessica or Alice to adapt. I'll add you to the cast.

    BUILD: Small and skinny with small breasts but appropriate for her size. She's in good shape and healthy however and is fast and flexible. Her male friends call her "kidnap-able" and have the running joke of picking her up from behind and walking a few feet with her before putting her down.

    PERSONALITY​
    POSITIVE TRAITS: Intelligent, quick-witted, well-educated, kind, friendly, outgoing, very affectionate even to strangers, forgiving.

    NEGATIVE TRAITS: Small, physically weak, naive due to her age, sometimes gullible, worries a lot and much of it is needless. It usually takes an outside perspective, like her mom or dad, her teachers or her friends to tell her when she has a right to be concerned and when she's simply borrowing trouble and needs to relax.

    LIKES: Books, video games, reading, rules, order, using knowledge gained from her powers to stand up for a friend or humble a bully at school. She particularly enjoys humbling mean spirited girls who gossip or make trouble for Alice's small group of friends. She never goes so far as to humiliate or hurt such girls however. Only enough to give them pause.

    LOVES: Her parents, her friends, animals, children, microplush blankets, footy pajamas, vanilla ice cream.

    DISLIKES: Mean, selfish girls at school, those who pick on her friends, people who abuse power, tomatoes, pain

    ASPIRATIONS: To bring about a society where normal humans and Channels can live peacefully, without fear or hatred. The only way to bring about this is cooperation, peaceful integration, compassion and an effort to understand both sides. Fighting against the government or forcing Channel powers on everyone will only result in more mistrust, hatred and death.

    CLOTHES

    Alice loves t shirts and short sleeved striped polo shirts and has an assembly of both in just about every colour you can imagine. She also loves leather jackets, jeans and knee high riding boots. Her favorite outfit is a black fitted leather jacket with snap button cuffs and closes with a zipper, a blue pair of skinny jeans and a pair of black knee-high riding boots over those jeans. The boots have a full zipper on the inside of the shaft, facing inward. She usually wears a white, gray, blue, green, or turquoise long underwear top under her shirt. She wears the bottoms under her jeans during cold months to keep her legs warm.

    Her other favorite outfit consists of a short sleeved blue dress over white leggings and a tight fitting white long sleeve shirt of similar material. The dress' skirt goes halfway down her thighs, in between her hips and her knees. The skirt is loose enough for comfortable movement but tight enough to avoid having much slack. She wears knee high brown leather boots over her leggings and wears silver sapphire earrings, a silver sapphire ring and brown leather gloves. This is the outfit she most often goes to school in.

    Alice has 6 pairs of footy pajamas and her favorite is a white pair with grinning black skulls. She also wears a pair of thin black glasses and most days a smile.

    POWER DETAILS
    PRECOGNITION: Precognition allows Alice to see the future in the form of dreams, visions and when certain conditions are met, vivid hallucinations. Dreams are the most common manifestation and Alice has gotten into the habit of keeping a diary of what she sees and can remember. These dreams often start out murky and unclear but over minutes, hours or days they crystallize and Alice is able to make sense of them. Sometimes she sees something particularly jarring or closely linked to her and it seizes her as a vision. These are rare, intense events that usually herald danger or a point of extreme stress. They are so intuitive that Alice can't communicate them to others but she can draw a picture of what she saw. She enters a trance and draws vivid scenes of people, places or things that may not make sense until just before they happen but they do help others, and her, understand.

    This power manifested when Alice was 13 and since then she's had a great deal of practice coping with it, understanding how it works and fine-tuning her mind to pick out certain events in an infinite sea of possibilities. She can meditate to focus on the infinite cosmos of the future and find particular events she's interested in, follow them, see where they lead and understand how they get there. Her powers are developed to the point where she can see and know events hours before they happen and prepare perfectly for everything from a girl friend getting into drugs to next weeks biology test.

    This does not make her omniscient however: The future is constantly changing and a hundred variations of the same situation are all true until one happens. Alice makes mistakes like everyone else and her visions can be slightly erroneous or downright wrong. Being a teenage girl with a history of depression, Alice has a lot of emotions and can't always handle what she sees. Sometimes she'll make bad choices out of frustration, fear, anger or any one of a dozen other emotions. Sometimes she'll worry about an event and cause it to happen differently. Her effectiveness depends on her concentration, her ability to cope and a little luck.

    DARK MATTER AND DARK ENERGY: These two substances make up most of the universe and are responsible for holding it all together. Alice had discovered in the last year that she can access and control these amazing substances and use them to create super dense gravity fields or negate gravity completely. Right now she can do little more than create a dark matter "ball" for use as a missile or envelop herself in an energy field and hover a few feet off the ground, but these possibilities have electrified her imagination. She's researched everything she can find on dark matter and dark energy and has discovered some amazing applications. She could upgrade the size and power of her "throw" field from its current state of knocking someone on their butt to A field strong enough to break walls, smash cars or crush bones. She could even release the energy explosively. She could also use this power to life object, throw them, crush them, create a small super dense sphere that draws and holds all around it, or even create fields so she could fly. With enough power and practice Alice could even create a black hole. She's only beginning to realize this potential and the possibilities are limited only by her imagination.

    BIOGRAPHY
    CHILDHOOD: Alice was very fortunate to have a very happy and very normal childhood. She had two parents who loved her and who both had well-paying government jobs. She grew up in a very safe suburban neighborhood with many friends and developed a reputation of being a sweet, friendly and adorable little girl. Her dad taught her to ride a bike and they shared many cycling trips that gave her a lean and strong body. She had a wide range of interests, including dressing dolls, video games and colouring, and had both boys and girls as friends. Both groups picked on her for her hybrid interests, ridiculing that she didn't fit in either group, but that only served to ferret out a loyal group of friends, both boys and girls, that always stood up for her. She received good grades in Elementary School and hit her academic stride in Middle School.

    TEENAGE YEARS: Middle School was much less kind to Alice. She was becoming a young woman but never became as tall or as ample as other girls. She exceeded almost everyone else academically but all that did was alienate her from the less achieving and more popular students. Her interests became more focused on "boy things" like video games, action figures, and trading cards, earning her labels liked "nerd" and "misfit" and overshadowing her more girlish habits such as making doll clothes and experimenting with her hair and makeup. When her precognition powers manifested and she suddenly knew things she couldn't possibly know, she earned the monikor "freak". This resulted in a steady stream of insults, bullying and mean spirited pranks. There were lots of days where she would come home in tears and have her mom hold her, and lots of nights where she cried herself to sleep. Sometimes with her mom or dad for comfort, sometimes alone.

    It wasn't all bad however. She had a core group of friends, mostly other misfit girls and misfit boys who liked those girls, whom she could trust with her power. It was benign enough to where she could hide it and her parents never reported it to the government, even though they could lose their jobs by doing so. Alice maintained a sterling reputation among her peers and the school faculty and maintained that into High School. People grew up a little, she could hide her powers while showing them to people she loved and had people who loved her. Overall, things aren't so bad.

    CURRENT STATUS: Alice is in her sophomore year of high school and is currently learning to drive. She got her learner's permit just after her 16th birthday four months ago and was able to have her party with her entire small but mighty group of friends. Her parents don't understand her powers but they try to and they still love her. Even after the strange and sudden emergence of her dark matter powers just after her birthday, which resulted in a snapped toothbrush, a cracked bathroom mirror and a long talk, they still love her. There are bad days where she considers her powers a curse that must remain hidden, and she usually cries over it but her parents and friends are always there to hold her. There are good days two, when she can practice her powers at home in secret but freeing conditions. Alice has taken the philosophy people like her, the Channels of the world are much like the first Christians. They had oppression and hardship in the beginning but in time they were not only accepted but they changed the world, for the better. Her parents have encouraged and seeded this philosophy. Alice is a member of Channel Surfing, a support and discussion forum for Channels all over the world and where she's found kindred spirits to get to know, talk to and vent to.
