Ok so I have Aranea Ienith as my follower, we're wandering along together thick as thieves then I happen across a mercenary in ebony armour. In my mind I'm thinking woot monies!! So first off I talk to her get a quest and realise she's no further use, and since this character I'm playin is pretty much a mindless murderer...I attack...TO MY HORROR Aranea suddenly leaves my service and starts attacking me.

Now what I really want to know is why? There isn't a problem I reverted my save I've got my faithful servant back again...but I'm so confused! The woman I attacked was just called Mercenary why did Aranea behave that way.

We have killed so many people together, she just helped me wipe out hundreds of imperials; not to mention assisting me with the night mothers requests, she even likes to attack people I don't want her to kill so why this mercenary?

If anyone has any insight at all I'd love to hear it =)

We were somewhere between Forsaken cave and Mount Anthor which is close to Azuras Shrine.....I wonder did she just wanna kill me and go home lol

I just don't know why she turned on me, she has always had my back. We have skyrim on the xbox and the latest patch gave us the ability to shout in person to make it happen in game, she willingly took the fus to dah like a trooper while I played with my new powers she still never turned on me so whhhyyyyy this mercenary, I just don't get it.

There are two kinds of followers: The one's that will tolerate crime and the one's that wont. So, Aranea must be one of the followers that don't tolerate crime. You can hit her a few times, FUS RO DAH her, make her carry rediculous amounts of items, but if you commit crimes in front of her, she will turn on you. These kind of followers will also attack you if you turn werewolf in front of them just so ya know

Aranea has never showed any distaste for my crimes ive killed many civilians and she has stolen lots of goods on my behalf it was very bizarre that she suddenly turned on me hence my shock that it happened

Hmm well then that's strange. Maybe it was the amount of crimes? Also I was reading on the UESP WIKI that she is in the faction "CrimeFactionWinterhold." So perhaps she will only turn on you for crimes if you are in the hold of Winterhold?

she is an any crime npc, meaning she is ok with commiting any crime. I don't see any bugs about this on google or the wikis it might have been a one time issue. Have you tried it a second time after reloading to see if it was just the once or if it happens every time?

You did also mention that you were somewhere close to the Shrine of Azura. So maybe she gets mad if you do illegal things close to the Shrine of her beloved Azura? I'm really spit-balling now

Lol I did consider it, but it makes sense if she is allied to windhelm I think I was close by I didn't know they cold be set that way I will pay a close eye to that. I couldn't go back and try it over cos I let her kill me i hadn't saved in a while and it was the best option since I wouldn't be without her, she is the butter to my bread in skyrim lol

I'v also had a similer issue to yours once...

I use Athis as a follower for the most part on my Bosmer file and he never has issue when i randomly kill innocent citizens, steal, assault people. He doesn't even seem to care if i turn into a werewolf.

But one day out of sheer boredum, i decided to kill a chicken in Winterhold. Then i get the notification "Your follower has left your service" and Athis was now trying to kill me. I just reloaded and it was fine but i have no idea why he decided to turn on me for killing a chicken. When i was in solitude killing half the citizens and guards and racking up crazy high bounty he gladly helped me kill the people no questions asked.

Followers are weird sometimes

She told me she was on the way to carry out a job for someone, and I offered to do it for her she walked off saying she had some time to kill; and I smugly replied out loud to the empty room I was sitting in "and I've got you to kill raaaaagghhhh" then aranea broke my heart lol

did you possibly hit Aranea by accident... more than once?
most followers ( believe) will leave your service and even attack you if you hit them more than a few times in a row

I dont know what to say as currently I have yet to use a follower at all. The best idea I had was it was a minor glitch, and most likely wont happen again.

She did that because she is against murder
