Capcom recently released a new prologue trailer and screenshots for its upcoming free-to-play PS4 dungeon crawler, Deep Down, showing the game off in all of its impressive shininess and stabbiness.

The game has an offbeat sci-fi twist. Instead of dropping you straight into a medieval world, it takes place in New York in 2094, where players touch magical artifacts and use the stored memories in those to transport themselves to randomly generated medieval dungeons to hunt treasure and fight monsters. It's set for a release some time in 2014.

The screenshots and the images offer little new information about the game except for a wicked-looking treasure chest mimic enemy that'll give old-school JRPG players anxiety-attack flashbacks.

But the developers recently shared some information about weapons and other aspects of the game with Weekly Famitsu, which was translated by Dual Shockers.

Perhaps most intriguing is the promise of a shared online world similar to Dark Souls. In Deep Down players can even find and loot the corpses of other fallen players, according to the Weekly Famitsu article.

The article also revealed that greatswords will be available as well as a sword and shield combo, and that players will use feelings to enhance their weapons as well as changing the look of the dungeons. Somehow. The exact mechanisms are yet to be revealed.

Although Deep Down looks visually impressive, lots of questions remain to be answered about how the game's free-to-play, or F2P, model will work and how well that will mix with dungeon-crawling gameplay. Check back for updates as more information is revealed.
