The character of Lightning was never very popular in America or anywhere else outside of Japan, but that sure didn't stop Square from making two extra games out of FFXIII, one of which was entirely about Lightning and no one else. The reason? Well....she was fairly popular in her home country. Enough so that she's now been licensed to sell purses.
The designer handbag company Louis Viutton has begin using Lightning to sell its new line of purses. Nicolas Ghesquiere, the artistic director behind the ad, tweeted a stereotypical fashion designer statement: "Reality and fantasy become one. Lightning a genuine heroine in the new @louisvuitton series 4 ad campaign."
Lighting is not alone; Square has licensed its characters to sell expensive clothes in the past. In 2012 people from FFXIII-2 were used in an
ad campaign for Prada.
