Looks like Geralt won't be tackling his new adventure alone in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. CD Projekt RED has revealed the game's second playable character, Ciri.

This is how Ciri is described in the announcement press release:

Ciri, the ashen-haired girl from an ancient prophecy, is a descendant in a long lost elven blood lineage. The girl is a living and highly volatile weapon capable of both destroying and healing the fragile world she currently inhabits. Emotionally connected to Geralt, the girl is pursued by the titular Wild Hunt, a cavalcade of ghastly riders capable of unspeakable destruction, and by the mighty Empire of Nilfgaard, the most powerful political entity in the entire world.

Ciri is a sword-slinger, like Geralt, but is fast and agile, can "blink" from one location to another, and has a dormant "mythical power" that will figure into the storyline. You can see her in action in the trailer above.

We're still wondering how much time you'll actually spend as Ciri. If you've played The Witcher 2 you'll know that you actually get to control several characters in that game, although only briefly in what amount to interactive cutscenes. It's sounds like Ciri's role will at least be more significant than that.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is set to be released on PS4, Xbox One and PC on May 19, 2015.
