HISTORY (Must be read in Codex voice.)
Thrax was born on Sur'Kesh in 2173 in a brood of 50. He had a fairly typical Salarian childhood but was always the odd on in his bunch. His 44 brothers and 5 sisters could understand why he idolized their uncle Mordin Solus and STG heroes like Captain Kirahee. What they couldn't understand was Thrax's obsession with trying to be brave rather than clever, or dealing with a problem head on instead of trying to find a workaround. They were most confused by his repeated and often failed attempts to "hold the line" in difficult social or life situations. Thrax just didn't fit in well with a culture that favored subtlety, espionage and never revealing one's true intentions.
When Thrax was 9 he applied for STG training and with Mordin as a reference and his excellent technical scores he was accepted. He expected to finally be able to help defend Sur'Kesh and Citadel space by standing tall and facing down charging Krogan and plotting Batarians. It turned out that the skills he hoped to hide were needed more than ever. He failed most of the stealth courses when he attempted to bolt through them and gun down the VI enemies and he was always too stubborn to run or hide in tests where that was the only viable solution. He had excellent scores in situations where he had to improvise or use limited resources to complete a task but not enough to compensate. His instructors failed him and the other trainees teased him about not being a very good Salarian.
Thrax was devastated. It would be a whole year before he could apply again and he felt like a complete failure. Worse, he felt like he wasn't a Salarian. A breeding contract his clan had been negotiating for him fell through days after this and between both it was too much for Thrax. He drank a pint of Ryncol and severely poisoned himself. His brood was shocked at this and became worried sick over him, realizing that their brother desperately needed help. Mordin came home to Sur'Kesh to discuss the matter with Thrax and in the end they both reached the conclusion that he needed help. Mordin saw to it that Thrax got the best care available, currently on the Citadel, and promised to come see him as soon as his work at Omega allowed it. Thrax, while accepting that he was sick and needed help, felt like a shell. Then he met Jessica, a survivor of Eden Prime and in worse shape than he was. She had no immediate family to go to and the Alliance had been keeping her whereabouts a secret for days after the attack for her own safety. They had no idea what the Geth wanted and they didn't want to endanger her. She and Thrax became fast friends and neither of them seem like so much of an outcast anymore.
(I'm tired right now and this really isn't my best work. I'll fix it tomorrow. Hope you guys like it nonetheless.)
