Today during QuakeCon, Bethesda revealed some new details about the hotly anticipated Fallout 4, specifically the types of characters you will be meeting in the game.
They started by describing the dog, which is once again named Dogmeat. This time they based Dogmeat on a real dog -- the lead designer's dog. In order to animate Dogmeat as accurately as possible, they filmed that dog going about its day doing many different things. Bethesda says you will get Dogmeat very early (as soon as you leave the vault, in fact -- instant dog!) and you can send him to conduct tasks like hunt for food, while you're doing something else.
In addition to Dogmeat, the world of Fallout 4 will include a dozen possible companions. Among them, Bethesda revealed Preston Garvey, who leads the Commonwealth Minutemen faction. You can join his army if you want to, based in Concord, Massachusetts. Concord is one of several New England towns recreated in Fallout 4, others confirmed during the presentation were Lexington and Quincy.
You can find a different companion, Piper, near Diamond City, which is a settlement in the ruins of Fenway Park. She's described by Bethesda as a charismatic liar, and you can date her if you want. In fact, you can woo any of the human companions in the game, no matter which gender you are, because apparently every survivor is bisexual (wonder if that means anything).
The sexuality of your own character is up to you. This includes asexuality -- if you play through the game without a companion at all, you actually get bonus perks. Bethesda mentioned Fallout 4 having 70 perks, with each perk having its own set of ranks, for a total of 275 ranks.
Fallout 4 comes out November 10 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
