A musician's metal band in the best sense, Flood The Desert display boundless talent on this long-playing EP. It's big (not a single song runs less than five minutes) and definitely showy, but fans of everyone from Led Zeppelin and Rush to Tool and Mastodon will have more than enough to soak in throughout. The trio draws from an overflowing creative wellspring, transitioning from heavy riffing, to prog-rock excursions, to jam-band soloing, all without missing a beat or sounding like they're stretching beyond their range. For the sake of full disclosure, Recoil's own Ryan Cunningham co-produced/engineered/mixed/mastered the very loud and loaded disc, but it's the band's stylistic mastery and relentless power that makes this a must-hear release.
