The desire for control is ingrained in all mortals. Maintaining order.Ruling land.Commanding troops. All mundane, common desires for those who leave the mortal realm in time. However, on not so rare occasions, the ambition of mortals exceeds their reach. Most times, this results in nothing more than a small disaster, or at most, daedric incursions. On this, particular occasion, mortals have not only exceeded their reach...they have gone beyond the bounds of sanity.

It has been nearly a century since the dragon crisis, and the brutal civil war. The dragons were banished by the legendary dragonborn and the war ended in a bloody stalemate. In the decades that passed, Skyrim has managed to oust their Thalmor overseers, who, without the support of imperial troops, were powerless to enforce the White-Gold concordant.

But it seems Skyrim is cursed to never know true peace. Even after the deaths of would be high king Ulfric and his court, unrest it rife in the northern province. Yet, this is the least of the provinces problems. In the year 289, of the fourth era, disaster struck the fall hold of Riften. First hand accounts report a foul sickness sweeping through the city and surrounding lands. Followed by madness and utter ruin. Kinsman turned on kinsman, laughing and sobbing and dying. The jarls quickly moved to isolate the strange contagion, manning the old bandit forts of Treva's Watch, Greenwall, and Faldar's Tooth.

The Dawnguard, long credited with wiping out the vampire menace many years ago, have fallen silent in their fort. No courier or armed messengers requesting aid have returned. Desperation is mounting, as reports of the contagion spreading to Whiterun and Falkreath holds, in small numbers. Worse yet, is the 'priests' that roam from hold to hold, declaring this disease to be the birthing of the New God. Greater than aedra and daedra combined.

With little recourse left to them, the jarls of Skyrim have bound together under a new high king, and summoned what willing adventurers, heroes, and assorted cutthroats willing to risk their lives for the good of the province. Those that are able are summoned to the central city of Whiterun. If they can stem this contagion and investigate this 'god' remains to be seen...Yet not all hope is lost. A man, calling himself the 'avatar' has since shown himself in the city, spreading words of hope and comfort to the populace. It is he, who has volunteered to lead this effort.

Alright, guys. First story helmed by me, myself, and I. Going for a mix of warhammeresque/cthulu type story. This 'avatar' is going to be mostly an npc, but I'll build a little character card for him, alongside my actual character. Feel free to go crazy with your characters, but not too crazy. Follow the rules, that is. Variety is appreciated, in both classes and races. Not going to put a hard cap for writers, but we will start up when we have between 4-6 people. Would be nice if people could post once a week. More are encouraged. NPC conversational text will be white. The 'avatars' conversational text will be pale grey.

Name: Urias Koln. Known as the 'avatar'.

    Sex: male

    Race: Imperial(?)

Age: Appears to be in his late forties, early fifties.

    Marital Status: Unknown

    Sexuality: Asexual

Laterality: casts spells with both hands.

Character Appearance: A lean, older looking man with short, dark brown hair that is streaked with grey. He has warm, hazel coloured eyes, a clean shaven face that seems more accustomed to gentle smiles than frowns or anger. He stands at 5'8". He is very clearly not much of a warrior and first impressions would make him seem more than a little frail.

Class: Claims to be a wizard or mage of some sort.

    Weapons: None, besides magic.

Armour: A pale beige robe, leather boots.

Misc. Gear: Coinpurse, a pouch with rations, healing potions, bandages, several gemstones.

Personality: Enigmatic at most. He is a kindly man, who will never refuse to help those in need. He seldom offers criticism, and seems to believe strongly in doing things for the greater good. He has shown no real concern for his own well being, but he's far from rash.

Combat Preference: Prefers not to engage in combat, and with only a robe for protection (as far as anyone knows), it's best he stays far from the front lines.

Backstory: Mostly unknown. He appeared in Whiterun one day, spreading messages of hope to the people in the city and the surrounding farmsteads. Questions about his past are largely deflected, though he never gets annoyed with those asking them. His sole desire seems to be healing the hurts that Skyrim has suffered.

    Text Colour: Pale Grey.

    Name: Zahar Sevaran

    Sex: Male

    Race: Khajiit

    Age: 29

    Marital Status: Single

    Sexuality: Heterosexual

Laterality: When not using his glaive, he's right handed.

Character Appearance: Zahar is big for a khajiit. Standing at six feet, two inches, he towers over most humans and even some altmer he's met. He's visibly muscular, with a broad chest and large biceps, though his musculature is not bloated to absurd proportions. His eyes are a striking amber in colour, and stand out against his smoky grey fur. A long scar stretches across the bridge of his nose.

    Class: Warrior, two handed variant.

Weapons: A glaive, with the shaft being about five and a half feet long, while the blade is about a foot and a half. The blade curves very slightly on one end, with a long spike that curves upwards at the backside. His claws and teeth are quite formidable.

Armour: Half-plate. Curving steel plate covers his upper torso and shoulders, while the rest of his body is in flexible, layered leather. He wears steel gauntlets, but no gloves. His shins are also guarded by lighter steel plates.

Misc. Gear: A coinpurse, a satchel with food, water, and several trinkets he's picked up on his travels. A moon amulet hangs around his neck, concealed under his armour.

Personality: In a word, predatory. Zahar lives for the hunt, something that throws off his companions, when he chooses to travel in a group. To most he meets, he comes off as a self assured, sarcastic ass. Something he is very much aware of and more than a little proud of. He is more than likely to pipe up with snide comments in moments of stress. He doesn't understand humour as most would, and when he does smile, it's more often the curl of a lip, revealing a long, curving, khajiiti fang.

Combat Preference: Zahar excels in the bloody melee that is combat, swirling his glaive around him to take off arms, hands, and heads. He has honed his natural instincts to sense danger coming long before it has reached him. If he's somehow disarmed, he relies on raw strength to tear into his 'prey'. More than one opponent has thought him defeated, only to have their throat torn out by his fanged maw.

Backstory: Born in Elsweyr, Zahar quickly became known as the strongest and best hunter around. Despite this, he very much wished to travel the wider world as an adventurer. It was shortly before he twentieith birthday that he decided to set out to make a name for himself, with his clans' blessing, and his glaive forged with much ceremony for him.

Setting out, he spent much time in the Empire as a blade for hire, constantly seeking new challenges and fights. His bloodlust was somewhat tempered when he met the khajiiti woman S'ar Jasi, in Leyawiin. He spent over a year traveling and loving her, before she met an untimely end while clearing out a bandit camp.

With her death, Zahar once again reverted into a feared predator, hacking apart those who stood in his way. This attitude has gained him few admirers and many foes. Which only makes the large khajiit happy. As much as he can be, at any rate. The desperate message from Skyrim has drawn his interest, and new god or not, he is very eager to test his glaive in the north.

Name: Marha Stonefang (not her real surname)

    Sex: Female

    Race: Khajiit

    Age: 26

    Marital Status: Single

    Sexuality: Heterosexual

Laterality: Right handed, but can fight unarmed or with her left if needed.

Character Appearance: Marha is not super tall, (5'6") or curvy but she has a very lithe form. Her fur is mostly tan in colour, which mixes well with her gold eyes. Dark stripes swirl around her jaw and her fur gradually changes to grey at her chin, throat, and the whole front of her torso. She has many scars under her fur, but none that are readily visible.

    Class: Bounty hunter

Weapons: A steel axe with a curved blade on one end, and a four inch long spike on the back side. She also carries a pair of plain steel daggers, and has six lighter, smaller throwing daggers on her belt. Needless to say, her claws are formidable weapons in their own right and she's a capable fighter, even unarmed.

Armour: Dark leather armour, overlapping on her upper chest, thighs, and shoulders. The armour is designed to take a few hits, but not hinder her movement or slow her down. She wears no gauntlets, but does have knee high leather boots.

Misc. Gear: A coinpurse, a waterskin, a couple rolls of bandages and several days worth of dried fruit and meat. Also a hooded, grey cloak that she usually wears when on the road.

Personality: Marha isn't the most sociable of people and often only acts when she senses something will bring her profit. She's not one to risk her neck without need, and she generally doesn't believe in the 'no man left behind' ideal. Unless she really likes that particular person. She's prone to sarcastic comments and poking fun of her companions, but is surprisingly loyal to those very few she warms up to.

Combat Preference: She's very much a pragmatic fighter, who thinks only fools attempt a 'fair fight'. While her lighter armour means she's not great in a straight up fight, she can take a few hits, and make sure those she hits stay down. If she can slip a thrown knife into an unsuspecting back, that's so much the better.

Backstory: Marha was born in the Empire, to a khajiiti couple who were often hired as scouts for both the dominion and empire. While they were paid well, they were often worried about leaving their defenseless children behind while they worked.

To prevent them meeting a messy end, both parents trained their litter of five to hunt, track, and fight. By the time she was fifteen, Marha could track a herd of deer for days, and fight blindfolded, relying on only her ears and sense of smell.

By the time she was twenty, she, like her siblings, were encouraged to go out and make names and coin for themselves. While she wasn't the first to leave home, she did travel the furthest. She spent years in Skyrim, hunting bandits and other fugitives from the law, earning the title 'stonefang' from the locals.

She was near Solitude when she recieived an urgent summons from a breathless courier. While Marha's no way a hero, she senses that a substantial reward will be offered, if they're successful. So finishing up business in the hold, she heads to the city of Whiterun.

    Text colour: My usual.

Up for a couple more Khajiit in the party? Character profiles are linked in my signature. Since this story takes place roughly 100 years after the timeframe in their backstories I'll just employ the old "flung through time by a strange Dwemer machine and trying to find a way home" approach to bring them into the story, if that's okay.

    Name: Kallas Phyrion

    Sex: Male

    Race: Imperial

    Age: 32

    Marital Status: Single

    Sexuality: Heterosexual

Laterality: Right handed, but usually wields his sword with both.

Character Appearance: Kallas is stands at exactly two metres tall, has short, brown hair and slightly tanned skin, typical for an imperial in the south of Cyrodiil. He is broad chested and well built, clearly from a life of training and battle. Walking around in full plate is no joke. His eyes are a dark green with lighter flecks.

    Class: Knight

Weapons: A steel bastard sword, with nothing really remarkable about it, besides the good quality that it seems to be kept in. The hilt is wrapped with wire and covered in leather, to give both a secure and comfortable grip. The crossguard curves up slightly, to better catch anything sliding along the blade. The pommel is metal and rounded slightly.

Armour:Full steel plate, with light leather padding underneath to protect against impacts and the elements. Like his sword, Kallas' armour is in remarkably good shape, despite the knight being a battle hardened veteran. The helm is full 'barbuta' type.

Misc. Gear: A coinpurse, a satchel with a weeks worth of preserved food and water, and a pale brown cloak, tattered but still serviceable.

Personality: Kallas is a fair minded and kind hearted man, but he also believes that duty comes before any kind of personal enjoyment. He distrusts magic users, and holds archers and rogues in disdain, preferring the 'honesty' of facing a foe in honourable combat. He also despises cruelty and racism, especially when it's directed towards those unable to defend themselves.

Combat Preference: Being encased in plate and wielding a bastard sword, Kallas does not shy from combat. He can shrug off most blows, and cleave the offending enemy in two, with a good swing of his blade. He is vulnerable to magic, however, which makes him weary of engaging a mage at a distance, since they could easily pepper him with spells as they attempted to withdraw.

Backstory: Born a nobles sun in the city of Cheydinhal, Kallas was long enamoured with the counts' knights he saw drilling in the palace square every morning. While his father very much desired for him to one day take up his place as the head of his house, Kallas had very little desire to do so.

At the age of sixteen, he joined the local chapter house, and put everything he had into becoming a worthy knight. Not just strength of arms and riding a horse, but chivalry and kindness as well. At the age of twenty, he was riding through the county, hunting bandits and helping outlying villages and hamlets where he could.

However, he quickly found this unfulfilling, and acquired permission from his chapter master to ranger farther afield. It was at this time that he learned of the dire straits Skyrim was in, and he rode there with all speed.

    Name: Kassom Sercha

    Sex: Male

    Race: Khajiit (Cathay breed)

    Age: 22

Marital Status: Single (and not looking)

    Sexuality: Hetero

    Laterality: Ambidextrous

    Character Appearance:

    Class: Rogue

Weapons: Throwing knives (concealed), steel daggers (x2)

Armour: Darkened leather (underneath rags and/or travelling cloak)

Misc. Gear: Variable -- he gears up based on job specifics. Standard equipment includes lockpicks and dried rations.

Personality: Distrustful, cunning, curious, likes blades and gambling, strongly dislikes magic, boats, undead, werewolves, and horses.

Combat Preference: Ambush skirmisher, mid / close range

Backstory: To tell the tale in short, Kassom and Iris were orphans "adopted" by an Imperial City mage and used for arcane experiments. As the Aldmeri Dominion laid siege to the Imperial City the two fled, eventually finding their way to Skyrim. See full character profile for additional details.

    Additional Notes:
As a result of the experiments done to him, Kassom can "smell" magic at moderate distances -- further if the magic is very strong.

Kassom is inhabited by the disembodied spirit of a Dremora warrior, who is able to take control over him at night when the moons wane. While possessed, Kassom (or rather, the Daedra named Ilais) fights using conjured weapons and armor. Kassom has no memory of these incidents and is unaware of his Daedric "guest".

    Text Color: Dark Red

    - Pickaxe
    - Woodcutter's axe
    - Bedroll
    - Homemade first aid kit (salves, herbs, bandages, etc)

Personality: Timid, optimistic, kind, generous, dislikes boats, thunderstorms, lightning, undead, and graveyards

Combat Preference: Prefers to be a non-combatant. When forced to fight, uses innate fire magic at all ranges and hammer at close range.

As a result of the experiments done to her, Iris has an innate use of fire magic without actually using spellcasting.

Iris is inhabited by the disembodied spirit of a Flame Atronach. Unlike her brother, the Atronach (named Aestuo) does not try to control Iris.

    Name: Anya Frostborn

    Age: 34

    Sex: Female

    Race: Nord

    Sexuality: Heterosexual

    Relationship/Marital status: Single

    Laterality: Right handed

    Afflictions: None

Appearance: Anya is atypical as nords come. Rather than being sturdily built and blond, Anyas' hair is black as a crows wing and her skin is as pale as the snow. She has a narrow, fine boned face, with thin brows over icy blue eyes. She's a lean woman and not very well endowed, nor is she exceptionally tall.

Armour: She wears a steel breastplate, carved in the nordic fashion that protects her torso, shoulders, and thighs. A fine set of scale mail covers her lower arms and legs.

Weaponry: An ancestral longsword, enchanted with cold and aptly named Winterspite.

    Class: Swordswoman/spellsword.

Combat preference: A skilled swordswoman, Anya prefers to take her opponents apart one by one. She can fight small groups but not as skillfuly as she does in individual combat.

Personality: Anya is a quiet and withdrawn individual, preferring not to speak out unless directly asked her opinion. She does not make friends easily, but feels a kinship with those who value things other than violence and war. Unlike many nords, she does not believe that Skyrim should be for the nords, nor does she have any real hatred of the empire. She detests cowards and liars, but accepts that sometimes discretion is the better part of valor.

Religion: Nine divines, but more subtly than her kinsmen

    Positive traits: VIrtuous, brave, clever

Negative traits: Withdrawn, blunt, somewhat arrogant.

    Likes: Traveling, the outdoors, solitude

    Dislikes: Racists, being confined, crowds

    Fears: Imprisonment, being trapped.

History: Anya was born into clan Frostborn, in the coldest reaches of Skyrim. Unlike many nords, she was born with more than a little magic in her blood. While she never embraced the arcane arts, she was still treated with a mixture of respect and suspicion by her kin. Like most nord women, she learned to fight at a young age, and proved to be quite good at it, besting several others in her clan. She has weathered the troubles in Skyrim. by keeping her head down and hoping not to have the contagion visit her humble homestead.

Yet, she was curious and beginning to wonder about the world outside her clans' longhouse. Skyrim was a big and dangerous place, and she wished to see as much of it as possible. A suit of fine scale and plate armour was forged for her, and she was granted her clans' ancestral blade, Winterspite. As the most skilled of the clan, she was expected to bring glory to her family.

However, Anya has little interest in gold, and none in glory. The stories that have spread from Riften are of terror and strife. The horrors to the west seem too well told to be some fools story..She seeks to help the people of Skyrim, not sate some jarls lust for blood and violence in another pointless conflict. To that end, she leaves for the city of Whiterun having heard the call for adventurers and sellswords.

    Dialogue: Blue, if possible
