There's a big difference between rebelling and being a rebel. The Stormcloaks may be rebelling (as well as repellent, reductive and ridiculous), but they are most definitely not rebels.

I agree with you. Addvar is simply law enforcement and I don't think that he witnessed anything. There are any number of people at the execution (store owners, citizens, etc.). Listen to their conversations and statements. It's been a while since I actually listened to them.
I think you may be playing on far to easy a difficulty. Most traps will eat at least a 3rd of your health on even the easiest settings and will kill you outright on the hardest I have to agree that they are certainly there to alert whomever is in the location to your presence.

I wonder why the OP would want to be one-shotted by traps? Aren't there enough things that can on-shot you in the game already? And their alive! (or maybe mechanized, in the case of Dwemer stuff).
