Once I get past the point in the game where I really don't need more gold I throw everything in a chest. Plan on having a huge garage sale when a modder makes that mod! But up to that point Riverwood Trader is the only one worth that perk.
I've only played as Stormcloak (don't like Imperials) but I believe even which side you join doesn't affect getting the house. I think you do need to do the civil war before you can get it. It's been a long time since I've done this part of the game.
To buy Hjerim you need to do a bunch of quests for Ulfric's steward. I don't remember if you actually need to join the stormcloaks or not.You can't decorate a house until you own it and then , for Hjerim, through the steward. Having the key doesn't make you the owner.
I like any house mod that is simple. I hate getting a mod with ridiculous amounts of items in chests and I don't see a need for 10+ mannequins. My current favorite is Hermits Treehouse. I like to watch the sunset from up there! lol
Just did Boetith's Calling last night. The mine at Knifepoint Ridge has 17 veins of Corunndum plus some Iron. I don't know if you only get the Corunndum when you're doing the quest. I saw another mining thread that said only Iron at this site.
I just did the quest Boetith's Calling. It sends you to Knifepoint Ridge to get some bad guys. I came out of there with the Iron you mentioned plus 51 pieces of Corundum Ore. Do some new areas open up if you're doing a quest? I didn't go through any doors or anything to reach that area.
It's been awhile since I was there. I remember Iron and Corrundun. I believe there was also 1 Moonstone and I'm not sure if there was a Silver. It was a fun little bandit lair. Got the job from the bartender in Solitude.
