    Did you by any chance make a save during this quest before going to Mzullt? If so, try reloading at that earlier load and try doing Mzullt again. Good luck. If still having problems may be consider re-doing whole quest again.

    Do you mean the Storage site at Mzullt? The main gate Katria goes through has a expert lock, but the side door has a apprentice lock. I have never had problems getting the shard here. You could try leaving the area completely go back and try again.

    This was the problem for me, why keep paying to travel to Solsthein when you can just teleport there. There was no way I was going to keep paying for the ship ride.

    You know you can fast travel to and from Skyrim, Solsthein, as much as you like. Have you tried fast travelling on your Horse? Sorry I wouldn't know as I never owned a Horse, so unsure if possible.

    Did you save before going into Saarthal ? If yes just reload, or just go back to last save before starting Saarthal.

    Little used Skill proving more helpful than expected

    I think trying to play as pure mage is difficult, I gave it ago a few years back, I played on a Xbox 360 then, so no mods. I found it way to difficult as my magic spells were not doing much if any damage, so I gave up. Now I use mods i'm yet to try a pure mage character again.

    You can fast travel back to Skyrim, I always travel this way after first time going there by ship. It should not be a problem. But hey if you think your doing ok in Solsthein, you should carry-on.

    Solsthein is meant to be harder than Skyrim, I personally don't go there until i'm in level 40's. There is a place which is safe for a short time to place your loot.
