I've found that that is true. As long as I'm already hidden when I drink the potion, they never see me (same with the spell), although there are exceptions. I think it's a combo when using either the potion or the spell. Of course, if you don't have the silent cast perk when casting invisibility it makes the whole thing moot anyhow. :)

IIRC dual casting it with the DC perk makes it last longer, so no, you can use it just fine without the silence perk.

No. You cannot. I have no idea what you're basing your logic on, but dual casting it will not magically make you unhearable.

... so... cast it... outside of hearing range...

I would expect my post to have made that obvious. DC it with the DC perk to make it last roughly twice as long and you're good to go. I've been doing that since my days of playing on PS3.

You seem to have missed the point. I'm not talking about casting noise. I'm talking about moving noise. As for casting noise, the silent casting perk is extremely useful.

Well, that's good for you, but someone else was talking about casting noise.

As for movement noise, casting Muffle or using enchanted boots works great. I believe that even sneaking barefoot works well, but I've never experimented with that.

The weight of worn clothing/armor affects sneaking. So you can either get the sneak perks, or just walk slowly.

If you're a Mage, casting muffle and invisibility makes you completely undetectable. Unless you do something like bumping into people, but generally you can jump around and simply run past everyone.

Hahaha I just have in my head a huge nord decked out in daedric armour, sneaking around barefoot :p

Daedric armor is for pussies who hide behind high armor ratings. Real men wear a helmet and the bare chested fur armor.

:p

Iv only ever worn it once to see how it looks tbh... My orc wears bare chested fur armour WITHOUT a helmet... his dreadlocks keep his head safe :D

That's why they're called dreadlocks.

No. Only custom enchanted boots have a muffle value of 100% noise reduction. Boots like Nightingale boots that are unique and come enchanted, the muffle movement perk, and the muffle spell all have a noise reduction value of 50%. Bears will still proximity detect you unless you have 100% noise reduction. Trust me, I've tried. They have Superman hearing and Thermal imaging systems built in.

They've never heard me. What was your character wearing? I had robes on.

Full Nightingale with maxed sneak and the five perks in the first perk investment. Had invisibility casted. It instantly detected me when I tried to walk by. This happens consistently unless completely muffled.

I had a weight value of three. You had a weight value of 18 in full Nightingale. Weight affects sneak and muffle works higher the lower in weight you are. Also with Nightingale muffle, if you weren't using the spell but the boots. That actually depends on your level.

So if you got Nightingale armor at level 19-31 you only have 0.5 Muffle.

I was max level before I started any of the questlines. This was back when I still played regularly and the Oghma Infinium still worked. Weight does effect it, yes. But that does not lessen the fact that it was impressive the bears could detect practically instantly.
