I preferred playing females when I was new to the game, but now I spend most of my time playing with the boys :)

I play males, mainly because I am one. I've made female characters in Skyrim, but only one of them has actually done a full questline (Thieves Guild. What does it say about me that my main woman is a thief?).

For RPG's I can never play a female as it makes me feel like i'm wearing silk panties or something (not that I have done such things) and I'm not like a real alpa male in real life or anything it's just a sort of feeling thing. My companions are almost always female though. I remember playing Perfect Dark when it came out and I loved it but for an RPG I can't be a woman, no offense.

I understand why others would play as the opposite gender, but I don't. Its not a truly cognizant choice, but all my strong characters I enjoyed were guys.

Bring me my broadsword, and clear understanding.
I've always played same gender (male) characters, I've not given any thought to playing female. It wouldn't make a great deal of difference visually because I play in 1st person so the only time I see my character is the odd kill shot and when riding a horse.

I wonder if playing a female character would put me in touch with my feminine side ?

Why is the alto wine always gone?
it's a tie mostly, unless im playing an orc, in which case it'sa male, the female orcs are just too ugly for me personaly. I tend to make my vampire characters female though, mostly because I play stealth vampires and too me a female vamp can look more innocent than say a male vamp, same can be said for a female thief/assassin, they look to be innocent and thus less likely to be a suspect lol.

Lady orcs are the best! I've only had one orc despite my playstyle being molded to the green skins. I played a female and she was the uglist thing going (but kind of pretty in her own under biting kind of way). But her story was really interesting. She challenged her father, the chieftain, and won. But the tribe elder wouldn't accept her and one of her crappy brothers took charge. She was encouraged to leave, but not really exiled. Her goal in life was to start her own stronghold. One for women who were tired of the patriarchal society they grew up in. One of my funnest characters to date. Probably because I focused on the orcs and did orcly things, stuff I didn't typically do on a normal character.

So, yeah, man, give a lady orc a try. She'll be your BFF4L. Or BFFFL? I'm not entirely sure because I'm not a 12 year old girl. o_O

I prefer male characters. One for being a male: I can relate to them better. And two: because the armor looks better on them. :D

I'm a guy currently running two characters, one an Argonian male Archer and the other an Imperial female Rouge. I enjoy using both since immersing myself in the story or creating my own RP is a lot more fun and makes the game last since I just switch characters whenever I get a little bored of one of them.

I generally play female characters unless a roleplay Im doing demands a male. I just enjoy playing the females more, even when RPing. The only exception is Orcs, I have made ONE decent female Orc, and after a corrupted save I've never managed to recreate that.

Here's a story that just happened yesterday that made me immediately think of this thread.

I go to start up a new character. I'm playing a light armor, shield and axe stereotypical Nord character. I haven't played sword-and-board in awhile and the only time I've ever done light armor is when doing a thief or assassin build. So, I figured I'd give it a try. I wanted a big burly male Nord with a big beard, barrel chest, scars, and lots of bold face paint. I want to wear like, studded armor and nothing better than like, steel weapons. I spent a good hour or so creating him and I had him damn near perfect. I go on to the naming part and I was going to name him Hrafn which is "raven" in Old Norse. I'm typing the name out when suddenly my finger slips and I hit the back button!!! It jumped right out of the naming screen and moved on, forever calling my character "prisoner". I was pissed, but figured I'd just go recreate him. I try and I try and I try. I'm never able to capture that lightning in a bottle I originally had. A good hour or so goes by with me trying to recreate him.

So I get completely frustrated and try my hand at a female Nord just because. The process goes exceptionally quick, I find a look I like that's just a little bit different. I name her "Hrafna" which is the female version of "Hrafn". She looks a lot darker than other characters I've built...to be fair, black hair was mandatory with the name. And I was content. Until I got her in game and her face looked really, really pale. So, I'm going to tweak her a little bit in Riften. See if I can get her face to have a little more color. Trial and error. Everything else I really like.

You ask if I prefer to play male or females... this is just an example of how I don't really care. Initially I wanted a male, but events conspired against me. It's whatever way the wind blows.
