I thought the game automatically started on novice difficulty, so this whole time I've been thinking I've been playing on novice. Turns out I've been playing adept. Guess I'm better than I thought I was. :p

I had to look twice at that today when I restarted! Killing the bear under Helgen keep should really take more than 3hits of a sword when 1handed skill is only 15 or 16....

Don't feel bad, I did exactly the same thing when I started playing. After my wood elf archer died for the 14th time I finally thought "gee maybe I should turn the difficulty down----oh, well, there's the problem..." :)

Yes, I also learned that the hard way. I was playing my level 48 character on legendary. Then, I decided to start a new one. While I was whacking away like a jackass on some stormcloak's back through helgen, I was killed instantly by his war hammer. Very sad moment. I thought maybe he just got lucky, so I tried three more times. Every time I hit the damn bastard, it barely did any damage to his health. Then I though, "WTF! Something isn't right here.... let me check the difficulty" and what do you know? :D

No matter what difficulty setting you're on, it carries through all other games. I will never forget this little fact for the rest of my life.

>> It did happen to me also, so don’t feel it was your mistake. I guess all the games start in “normal” difficulty, which in Skyrim is Adept and that is the default. If you are new to the game, I will suggest to start on Aprentice or whatever the lower difficulty is, and then when you get use to, increase the level as you feel comfortable with. Just my 2 cents ... ;)

I made another character the other day, and just for the hell of it, I'm working her in "expert" mode. It is harder to be sure, thing is, it's having me rethink my tactics of fighting. Bleak Falls Barrow was fun even though she died a couple of times.

I ended doing a fight, kill then run like hell a couple of times, lol. I'd sneak up to a Draugr, nail it using a fine steel sword and a fine steel dagger while the other's awoke. Then run like hell away until they quit chasing, then sneaking back again to finish the job.

For me, it's all about the fight, and the different way's to vanquish an opponent other than charging in. I also have in in improved Imperial gear, yet keeping the Mage Robes I got in Helgen.

I put my two most used/useful spells. That way if I'm surprised attacked I can easily switch. Much easier then the favorites menu, which I also use all the time. Paralyze is one spell I have hot keyed. I can't count how many times that has saved me. It's funny too to see an enemy (like a saber cat) jump and you and go flying past paralyzed. On my other character I'll probably have a sword on one and a bow on the other hot key.

Yeah I just favourited Frenzy and Staff of Jyrik Gauldurson, but always equip Rout after a fight just in case I'm ambushed.

That's just on my Necromancer, though

I just figured that out too, makes things so much easier.

I still dont use them  I use the favourites menu heaps and I just keep forgetting bout the hotkeys!

Wow.... I had no clue for xbox they had hotkeys as well in Skyrim. I never really thought about it. Once I saw your post, I thought let me check it out. So happy right now, yet a little sad that I didn't figure it out a very long time ago.

Huh? They're saying that the XBox controller has hotkey's??

I knew PC's have them, I used them a lot when playing WoW. But really, hotkey's for XBox? Even the wireless controller?

They need a "surprised as hell" icon, because I sure would have used it, lol!

If it's anything like Ps3 (which I'll bet my Aunts cat that it is) than the Left and Right directions on the direction pad are your two hotkeys.

Open up your Favs menu (or normal inventory) and when your item is highlighted, press either the Left or Right direction. A '1' or '2' should appear next to the item and Voila!

I find its difficult to remember to use it though after so many gaming hours without it! haha

Got that right! I have a hard enough time, remembering to save! I turned off the auto-save on both of my char's, and I've had to repeat stuff so much, lol! But wtheck, you know?
