What we do in life, echoes in the eternity !
I went to the Forebear’s Holdout to rescue the Moth Priest and as soon as I entered the cave, I started to battle using destruction magic. After I killed all of the vamps, the Moth Priest became hostile. I reloaded the game and happened the same thing, so I reloaded the game for a third time, but this time, I entered the cave using my sneaking and killed all of the vamps with my bow.
This time the Moth Priest did not turn hostile. I think that if you enter to the cave and start killing in open battle, the vamps bite the Moth Priest and contaminate him with vampirism. When he turned hostile, he was expelling red mist from his body, and that is the sign of contamination.

The first time that happened, I left the cave with Serana and he started to attack us. I fast travel to Fort Dawnguard to report to Isram and when I entered the Fort, the Moth Priest started to attack Isram. That is when I decided to reload the game for the second time.

I don’t know if this happened to any of you but definitely, it is something that I never expected. Matter of fact, it never happened before because I never entered to that cave if I was not sneaking and killing in silence. But this time I decided to give it a shot to my destruction magic and that was the result. Just to share with all of you ... ;)

He was hostile to me, Serana smacked him down, and then he gave up and we made nicey-nicey. Then I took him back to the fort and blinded him with an Elder Scroll.

He is supposed or be hostile when you first free him, he is enthralled. Defeat him and he should be friendly

>> I know that he turns hostile when you freed him but this is not the case. After you talk to him and tell him to go to Fort Dawnguard, he turns hostile again and he does not stop. I had to reload the game and enter to the cave and kill everybody while sneaking. My point is that is you enter that cave in open battle, the vamps will turn him to vampirism and he will turn hostile and will not stop.

If you take Serana with you on that part of the quest, there is a good chance that this bug will surface. It might even be a certainty. Leave her at Fort Dawnguard next time.
