This race has me kinda mixed up a bit . In the ability' s of Nords there is + 10 for two hand and + 5 for one hand . So do you lvl Both or just one ?? I really am likin the Two hander .

My problem is that with a one hander + Shield you can lvl block to 50 lvl which gives 50 % Resistance to Fire Shock and Frost ..... with out that how can you off set not having those ? Like for when a Dragon is hitting you with Fire . K Tks hope this is not to confusing a Question .

Basically you have to pick a style. Mostly the boost is for early levels, but is a secondary concern.

For your "Nord build" You should try to figure out a specific style you want. Do you want a Berserker? A Housecarl (Basically a knight)? A Raider/Skirmisher?

Basically look at how you want to play and build around it. I think it sounds like you want a Skirmisher type with a shield.

For that I would say your skills are (In any order)
1-handed, Block, Light Armor, Smithing

With secondary focus (basically you only need some of the perks and not all of them
Sneak, Archery.

But I honestly am not sure what you really are trying to do. Do you have examples of characters in fiction that inspire how you want to play? Or an Archetype?

Hey tks for help ... Yea I really like that 2 hander , I got 3 pts in it right at the moment ( Lvl 9 ) and no pts in 1 hand ... do you think I should re roll before going any further ?? and stick all my Perks into Sword and Shield .

I have always used the shield and a 1 hander .

If you are enjoying 2 handed then by all means focus on it. It shifts you to a more offensive focus, but is still a fun style. I know on my 2-handed character you felt powerful when you hit something. Though you may want to get some heavy armor, because you will take a few hits.

But the key thing is play how you want.

Really it's all up to you. If you want, you can do both and murder everything. I highly doubt you'll have trouble with perks, considering when I use all 4 schools of magic I still have enough.

Normally, people either pick Dual Wield, One handed with shield, or two handed. I've seen a lot of people use archery with one of those so they have the range advantage when need be. If you're having a blast with two handed, you can make that your main one, and use one handed whenever you feel like it. Although, if you go the one handed route, I do suggest a shield as it makes it a little more entertaining.

For magic resistance: You have a few options. Are you going to do enchanting? If so, this is where most of your options are. You can either get the magic resist damage, fire resist damage, shock resist, or frost resist. While the generic "magic resistance" protects you from all schools of magic, the percentage it does is significantly lower than fire, frost, or shock alone. From what I've noticed, frost and fire are the most used magic against you.

What I do: I enchant a few pieces of attire with both fire and frost resistance at around 45% (from what I can remember with dual enchanting perk). Since the max you can resist is 85% of magic damage, you only need 2 pieces. Now, when those pesky mages attack you, you'll be all set to go :D

I believe you can still block with a two-handed weapon. Hit your regular shield button and you should use the weapon to block an incoming blow. As I understand, it blocks a bit less damage than a proper shield, but it still does help and I believe it still levels your blocking. If you hit both buttons at once, you can also bash with a 2H weapon. You can even block and pommel strike with a 1h weapon, if you keep your weak hand free.

It does not appear the deflect arrows and elemental protection will work while blocking with a weapon, though. For that, I'd suggest heading out to the Lord stone, near the Dagon shrine, and doing the Mara quest in Riften. Those two will give you a combined 40% increase in elemental protection, in addition to 50 frost resistance you already have as a Nord. Drop some fire protection on your boots and you're pretty good against dragons. You can use a necklace/ring for shock, or just keep a few potions on hand for dealing with mages.

Here's the wikia on block.

Good setup. Mine changes a bit, depending on what I already have a resistance to, but in its most basic form (someone who has no elemental protection) I usually end up with boots of fire/frost, necklace of shock/frost, ring of fire/shock. That puts me at or over the cap. If I'm a Nord or something, then I pull one of the boot slots off and replace it with muffle.

You can forgo having that shield perk by working in Enchanting or Alchemy to create items/potions of Resist Frost/Fire/Shock, or you can buy pre-enchanted armor and potions. As a nord, you already have 50% resistance to frost.

If you haven't given two handed a serious try before, I recommend it. It's very fun and plenty of the perks are useful. You can, of course, work on leveling both. In large battles, use your main weapons, and in small battles or 1v1 or against weak dragons, use the other weapon you're working on bettering yourself at.

For one handed weapons, dual wielding is good for playing on easier or more normal levels of difficulty as you don't have to worry about getting hit, or if you have high skill in an armor and have upgraded it. On a higher difficulty, you'll wanna go sword+shield because getting hit without blocking is a bad idea.

Actually I am also always used the boots and a necklace for it too :D

I get what you're saying though about adding in some shock resistance. I guess I just never really got concerned with that, considering I don't use magicka and I rarely get attacked with shock. But it's good to have a back up for it just in case. I'm probably going to start caring around an extra set of boots with fire and shock in case. Thanks!
