This is just a bit of a theory I have. I realized that the Bosmer are pretty much a perfect counterpoint to the Bretons in terms of culture and physiology. While Bretons are refined and elegant, the Bosmer are attuned to nature and live in jungles. While the Bretons gained a knack for magic and spells, the Bosmer developed survival skills and a physical aptituded uncommonly found in mer. While Bretons gained some elf blood with their magical developments, Bosmer became more human like and physical.
Let me hear your thoughts on this people. Anyone else get this idea?

pretty much, one is like 80% or 90% human 20% or 10% elven and the other is like 80% or 90% elven and 20% or 10% human or something its funny how the human dominant race out of the 2 is the magic gifted one despite elves being known to be more magically gifted and the bosmer act more physical.

Bosmer are still Altmer but mutated due of to enviroment changes of Valenwood, so, no.

I don't see the relation between the two. Yes, the Bosmer tend toward the more physical and earthy side of the spectrum along with the Orsimer, but that's really just an adaptation to their environment, where the phenomenal cosmic power so revered by the Altmer or Dunmer takes a bit of a back seat to hunting dinner because they have to feed an entire functioning society without agriculture (or at least the sort of agriculture that grows things for you to eat). They still have the same capacity for magic as nearly any mortal race in Tamriel and they have their own racial magic secrets that haven't really been showcased because Elder Scrolls VIII: Valenwood isn't out yet. ;)

Besides, the Bosmer aren't even the most dramatically altered mer race. Setting aside the Chimer/Dunmer thing, since the Dunmer are still pretty mystically inclined, the Orsimer are technically elves and they retain the title of the most viscerally physical race.

(Also, why do people say that physicality is not an elven thing when fully half of the four known elven races in Tamriel are warrior types who tend to resort to violence long before magic? And the Dunmer are sort of half-and-half about that, too, so the cerebral magey elf looks to be a distinct minority.)

That is a very good argument, BigBad. I just considered the Bosmer because they were the result of natural evolution instead of a curse or some other sort of Devine intervention.
At least as far as lore goes, mer are very magically inclined while men are more physical and intellectual in more mundane aspects. Bosmer seemed the most adapted to the mortal plain and Bretons seemed the most mystical. A race of elves became tree hugging hunter/gatherers, and a race of humans became cultured arcanists. I thought it would be fun to draw parallels.

I think what the OP is saying is that the Breton and Bosmer Races are opposite one another on the skill/culture scale.

Two sides of the same coin, you know.
